Now a good solid real ale pub with 6 changing cask ales. Bar staff knowledgeable and interested in the beer. 10% off real ale if you have a CAMRA card. All cask £2.49 on Mondays. Friendly atmosphere and lots of locals. Food is OK pub food.

The change of manager a few months ago has breathed new life into the "Bridge". Seems a better atmosphere somehow. Now focussing on real ale with 6 handpumps and a varying selection of beers. You can ask them to get your favourite. Plus if you are a CAMRA member you get 10% off everything!

Overall disappointed. Visited a number of times times over last few months at various times. Its a 2 for 10 place, which just means the price of single meals are grossly overpriced. Even at a 5 its pushing it, very ordinary pub fried/microwaved food. The interior is getting tired Its probably why the lights are turned down in the evenings (or just not working) , however this just creates a more tacky feeling. Needs brightening up. Do have cask ales, IPA and Boddies ,plus guest ales. Very young staff, possibly too young. Suffers from poster blight. Interesting comment by wheel154, I too noticed this about clientele being sprawled about. Very strange mix, a complete contrast to the John Gilbert, no apparent dress code, flip-flops, shorts, football shirts, trackies ok its only a few, but these things tend to get out of control. Suspect people who get turned away from the Gilbert wander down here ( they have doorstaff). Another annoyance is the fact that children can run riot, which parents and staff seem not be notice. Kids should only be in pubs with parents for meals, and be at a table. I have that gripe about a few places, not just this.
The main thing the place has is it location, its not a canalside pub as such, situated on the main road across from it. Stunning uparket area, pub has a downmarket approach. Needs sorting.

This is a great pub and my 'local', if anything is. Often much maligned as a result of history, but Cath is dragging it up by its bootstraps and its is masses better than it has been for many years! Good, sensible, VFM food; great coffee; and an ever changing range of real ales - all at reasonable prices. Very children (till 9pm) and female-friendly, this is rapidly becoming a good cross between a smart watering hole to meet friends / do business just off the M60 and a good solid 'local', patronised by a range of people from upmarket Worsley as well as the council estate up the road. Cath is aware of all the pubs 'foibles' and works tirelessly to address them. If anything, the food and beer have improved, speed of service if getting better, the (new) staff are all much more friendly and noting is too much trouble. I would recommend this pub to anyone, and if you're someone who thinks any less of it than I do, go speak to Cath/her duty manager (probably either her son or daughter) and let them know what you are unhappy with - they'll soon make it right and ensure it doesn't happen again. A great 'village pub', born out of the ashes of the horror it had been allowed to become by previous landlords - and so much better than having buldozed it and built yet more trendy flats!

Parents live nearby so visited this place a few times a couple of weeks ago. A vast improvement on my previous visits. The food was fine and very well priced, the lager was kept well enough and the staff didn't scowl. I would agree though, that they are not the fastest people in the business and waiting to be served seems to be the norm. My only other gripe would be some of the clientele who think they're at home, sprawled over the furniture, feet on seats. Not that the management seemed to mind. Pity, because in all other respects it's come on leaps and bounds and still worth a visit

The Bridgewater recently reopened and has been nicely refurbished. However, whilst the food is quite good, the service is incredibly slow. When I visited yesterday it took over half an hour for the food to reach the table, despite the pub being almost empty. On the previous occasion I visited it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive. So be warned: Be prepared to wait ages for food, but as for me, I won't bother in future!

been in three times. not welcoming. staff don't talk to you. first visit waited nearly an hour for food and it was quite bad if honest. tried again as we thought it must be an off day. unfortunately same problem. food was terrible. beer was not chilled and tasted out of date or as if it had been in the line for a long time. no atmosphere and an overall no frills experience. shame as the buildingis stunning.

This pub is NOT closed - check it out. Went in there and had an exceelent pint of Greene King IPA. They also had Old Speckled Hen and Black Sheep. They had a very good food menu although I didn't try any grub it looked very nice. Very welcoming atmosphere so like I said above please try it out and decide for yourself.

The pub is currently not open as it has been closed down by the local Licensing authority due to a number of problems being encountered at the premises. It would therefore be unfair to post a review of my visits which were just prior to the closure order, as the pub was in a state of serious decline. It did receive a large amount of publicity around this in papers and TV.
It is due to reopen , minus things like Sky TV, Pool tables, DJ music, although its longer term future may be unclear. I will revisit in the near future.

Up until my last visit it was a while since I had been in and the place has definately changed for the better. Decent beer selection and a more relaxed atmosphere than there has been in recent times.

At weekends it used to be full of snobby b*stards and wannabees with bad attitudes but since yates in swinton has closed it's now full of scallies and trouble makers. Either way I've never had a good night in there.

good pub all the time, during the day very quiet, in the evening a lot louder. friday saturday and sunday always very busy without fail sometimes too busy. friendly staff, shows almost every football match that is on, decent music with pub quiz, also has a pool table which is becoming pretty rare in worsley and boothstown area. beer a little on the expensive side

This pub has changed a few times over the years, not for the better. Attracts a boisterous, very young crowd, some very drunk. You tend to get people taking their drink from this place to the Barton and vice versa. The toilets are a nightmare to get to when busy - service can be sluggish. Food was average. Shows football. Loud music/discos. On the day of the second visit - 25/08/05, someone had put some of the pubs front windows in.

Popped in here as the Barton Arms over the road had no decent beer to drink. Beer in this one was OK and at least there was a choice.Very quiet on the day we were in there but the pub was clean and there were plenty of room.
