There are currently four (soon to be five) Wetherspoons in Southampton. This is neither the worse nor the best. It is the typical long narrow set up, meaning the only natural light is right at the front near the front door where the smokers congregate. There's no atmosphere or character, but there are pillars in the main area which break up the view so it's not just a plain empty space. Generally does between 6 and 8 casks. Fairly average all round.

Popped in today (Saturday 3rd April), good service, ale in excellent condition and the food was brought to the table in edible condition and in good time. No teetopmetz, I'm not a member of staff or even a local, this is just how I found the place today.

The 3 reviews on the 7th June are nonsense, I can only assume these were posted by the management. This is one of the worst pubs in Southampton. If you have your benefit to spend then come here. This place is full of council estate chavs and unpleasant lowlife. Just don't bother, there are plenty of real pubs in Shirley.

For service, this is easily Southampton's worst Weatherspoons. Always understaffed, no matter what time of day it is. Avoid.

This pub had had a complete turnaround recently, it's now a great place to go to have a few cheeky drinks on the way into town, wine and cocktails are both a good choice!
Also really great for chilled out breakfast on a Sunday too.
All in all the new place to go to start the night and recover the next day.

Although part of a chain this is a friendly, local pub, with helpful staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Good range of well kept beers.

Popped in with my 5 year old recently and received an exceptionally warm welcome from the staff. Already impressed, we stayed for lunch which was hot, delicious and well presented. I travel around the UK and have visited many Wetherspoons pubs - some of which I prefer to make no comment about!
This one is well worth a visit especially of you (like me) enjoy real ale - what a selection for a chain pub; and the ones I tried well in great condition.
Tim Martin please note - I will be back soon with the rest of the family thanks to the warm welcome form your staff!

arf. Wetherspoons at its worst. A dark, unwelcoming boozer in one of the less salubrious areas of Southampton. Barge your way past the smokers blowing in your face out front only to find an understaffed and depressing interior. Not worth it.

Horrible. The sort of place you might visit once but unless you're a big fan of 'the casual violence' vibe or you enjoy unpleasantness and rudeness you wouldn't return.
|
I will never be visiting this pub again in a million years. It is always full of people desperate to seek a fight and the staff are very rude. Don't bother visiting this pub.

As social anthrolpologists of the highest order, this pub fascinates as it has all the makings of a classic, encapsulating social order at its most varied.
Of particular interest are the two elegant ladies who are often observed sipping from a flute of refined claret whilst discussing their latest Royal encounters. It is rumoured that none other than the Duchess of Cornwall has frequented their powder room.
"cheap pub and cheap people"? More like befuddled mortals in a cosy coterie.

A wetherspoon pub in Shirley, Oh dear. Could things get much lower. Cheap pub and cheap people. All the local chavs etc.
