Has become a Coco Momo cafe bar
|
Still boarded up today, with no signs of life. So, no refurb underway as yet.
|
Boarded up for the last few days, unclear whether this is a closure or just a refurb.

I reckon this pub is stuck firmly in the middle between posh wine bar and dingy backstreet local. Don't get me wrong, it isn't either of these, which is what makes it good! You can have people from anywhere on the social spectrum rubbing shoulders here, and that I think makes it a little different from the other pubs near Holborn. Plus, being just that little bit further away from tourist hell, there was room to move. Thumbs up!

My first visit ever with Mycroft, and we tried both the Bombardier and Theakstons Best Bitter - both very acceptable. Food (steak sandwich and cumberland sausage sandwich) was so-so - but filled a gap.

I dunno if its the same Landlord as mentioned below on my Fri visit, but he looked like Kevin Smith in my opinion (and he looks like he's had a few prk pies, bless him)
Not a bad pub, yuppie atmosphere but welcoming. Not alot of ale choices but a 'blue label' beer ive never heard of and I can't remember the name admittedly but was fairly strong and quite nice. Cosy place with friendly punters but nothing out of the ordinary...

Watch out cheap beer fans, a new brewery will be taking over this place at the end of September 2006.
For the time being, the most miserable bar staff ever have taken over (old staff have now gone) so enjoy the cheap beer while you can
The temporary landlord (who appears to enjoy a pork pie or two!) has confirmed that the beer prices will be going up.

one of my favourite pubs i work nearby nice pub to start the evening in
|
Nice place although its in danger of turning into a beefeater / harvester. The Pool table has been replaced by more tables.
cheapest pub in holborn though. Between 1.80 - 2.20 for most lagers.
Can get busy on a Friday lunchtime especially if you are stuck behind someone saying "er, i like to order some food please"
arrrrhhggggghhhhhh

Without a doubt the best pub I have ever been to. If you are in London you MUST come here - this is what pubs are meant to be about. An ever changing selection of fine real ales, perfectly kept by a landlord who clearly takes pride in his establishment. The food is divine and very good value and this pub seems to attract a varied crowd from all over the capital.
