A decent Greene King pub just opposite the station approach. Several cask ales.

Very friendly pub within view of the railway station. Unless you're that way inclined best to miss match days and when the footie is on the large TV screens it is very noisy. Beer choice was average...too much GK for me...but the Trumans we had was excellent.

Its been 7 months since I visited Norwich so my comments should be seen through that hindsight. Fantastic visual appeal for a first time visitor approaching from the railway station. Not many in around noon on a Thursday, which is normal from my observations around the UK. I had a pint of something called "1730", tasty and only 3.45, which after a week in London was quite cheap. But given its promising location I would have to say the experience was pretty ordinary.

Most of the reviews say it all. The pub is near the station and so ideal for a quick drink while waiting for a train ( you have to do something!) I asked for a dimple jug and was given some strange unintelligible reason as to why they don't have them. Other pubs have them. Never mind.

One of the few pubs I've been into not to drink the beer - which I am sure is fine but this was 10am for breakfast - decent enough at £3.60ish for a full English. Pub looks like it's seen better days but I saw a Woodforde's handpull so local beer. Good location by the river Wensum.
A great location next to a River, quiet when I was there.
Pleasant bar Staff.
No sign of any Football fans fortunately so I enjoyed a couple of pints of Wherry.
had a hour before my train.2 mins walk from norwich station reasonable pint of wells beer. as it was warm march day most customers were sat outside by the seats by the water.ok pub would used again if waiting for train from norwich station
Should be one of the best in this city, that its not and far from it is a shame. Ex Spirit pub and probably ex everyone else, probably want to coin it in on match days and thats about it. Not the worst pub but plenty of dire examples for that
Managed a quick pint of Woodforde's Wherry before catching our train home. Bouncers on the door but no problem; plastic glasses but the beer was OK and we got served quickly enough. Nice location and handy for the station - that's about it really!
this pub should great its a big riverside pub..but im friad its poor range of beer/ales slow staff. its become the away pub for away fans and a pre club pub.
3/10

Went in here as an away fan on Saturday before Hartlepool played against the mighty budgies. Got in at about 12 and there was a decent number (about 30-40) of away fans and a few home fans. Lager was cheapish and tasted reasonable. There was food served at about 7-8 a meal and my mates said that it was ok.
Barstaff were quite efficient and pleasant.
The pub is set in a beautiful location and would be a great place to sit outside of in the summer.
We moved on at about 1pm to meet other fans that had travelled, but would definately use this place again.
A fine away pub for fans before a match but not too keen otherwise - if you want a drink by the river walk 5 minutes down the river path to the Red Lion
Not a bad pub at all. Very close to the station and overlooking the river. The pub itself is on different levels and has a largely wooden interior. Often has doorstaff but they always appear friendly enough (I guess they need them due to the proximity to the station). Staff tend to be welcoming and there's a range of beer with always includes a few from Woodfordes. Worth popping in here should you need to kill some time before getting a train.
A better experience than our last in this pub. This was a flying visit to gain another stamp for the Woodfordes Ale Trail. Wherry, Nog (Woodfordes) with London Pride and GK's IPA available. The Woodfordes Nog was a pleasant and enjoyable pint. I have increased my Bite score from the previous visit.
Used it last year for a quick pint before the train, and it was pretty mediocre. Went this year, and it is transformed, with friendly staff, and some excellent Woodfordes beer. The Nog was outstanding. Highly recommended.
This pub is much improved recently, and well worth a visit. The best pub in the locale of Norwich Station (one min walk). Always has at least four real ales in excellent condition, including local brews. Serves great food all day. Has a large outside drinking and eating space which is excellent on warmer days. The new toilets are a great improvement.
Clearly not on the trendy list for the Saturday night crawl.

This is quite a large pub, but pretty empty at 8.00 on a Saturday evening. I think the clue is in one of the previous postings,. This is a pub to call in on the way to somewhere, and not a destination in itself. The TV was dominating one of the bars and deterring people from staying long. Woodfordes Nog was OK
Somewhat better than I expected - the interior isn't up to much, but it has a good location beside the river (and is very close to the railway station). Had a decent pint of Woodfordes Norfolk Nog (one of 5 real ales on offer).
We only used this pub quickly to meet before football. We chose it as it's the closest to the station. A quick half of Wherry unfortunately served in a flimsy plastic glass. I hope it was just because of the football and not a regular occurance.

new owners... new attiude... better food...gay friendly AND student discounts...our new local. BESS N' CREW

this pub has been taken over by a couple of guys from the south, and have done many changes, especially in the state of the toilets and bar area. we come to norwich every year boating, and were personally invited in by the landlord, adam, whilst dog walking (we have the same type of dog!!!) the food was great, the balcony views of our boat (sic) the icing. improved. tel&lynn

Seems "ok." Only been here twice. Once - too busy, other time - very quiet. Known as the away fans pub. Now run by a gay couple.
Used to be a great place to go & very busy. However since the Riverside area got going & this place started to lose trade it seems to have done very little to win it back. Just a tidy up & splash of paint would help.

Pretty ordinary. Which is sad as given it's riverside location it could be better. Staff do the job but little more than that. Place is a bit tired. Ok for a quick drink but I wouldn't want to spend an evening there.
I don't have much of an opinion on this place, it's 'ok' and thats just about all you can say about it. However I REALLY wanted to point out that Norwich doesn't have a canal!

QPR lost 1-0. Went here after the game. Away fans. Plastic glasses. Loads of police for some reason. All is all faintly depressing.
Atmosphere and service isn't up to much, but the outside seating by the river is good. Five real ales are available, which is a plus.
Went there for St Georges Day 2005 when Charlton were playing there. This is the away fans pub. proper good laugh on a warm day by the Canal by the Bridge. Really good day out with decent priced beer and a really good atmosphere
8/10 due to location and outside decking

Most pubs that are either in or really close by to a railway station are usually super crap - it`s one of those rules of the Universe like the consistency of gravity and the constant expansion of Jordans tits. I`m not sure why this is the case, probably because the owners know theyve got a guaranteed flow of knackered commuting customers who cant be arsed to find anything better and therefore will tolerate even the grottiest of hovels.
Thankfully the Anglear is one of those rare pubs that at least tries to break this rule. Inside it is cosy and well maintained, with a good enough drink selection and staff who are generally helpful and speedy with the pints. It also makes good use of its side position overlooking Norwich`s canal with a nice little outside area that makes a pleasant spot for a few swift ones during the summer months.
However, while its nice enough its character does appear a little forced (slightly too twee) and its limited food selection is crap just dont bother on that score. Most importantly though is that it isnt as cheap as some of the other pubs a little further up Prince of Wales road, which lets face it is always a bit of a killer. Therefore while its nice a enough for a quick stop over, it doesnt have much thatll make you want to stay too long 6/10.
