Good luck with the new refurbishment P&P!
|
Very nice since the refurbishment, well worth a visit and set in a quaint market square location :-)
|
This pub has just been renovated and the decor is very nice, it's now called something like Qui Pasa. The food is a very simple menu with lots of snacks, ideal for a lunchtime and very good value as is the beer.
|
Avoid.
Absolutely crap.
The food is like a bad wetherspoons and the beer badly kept. I had a pint of guinness that was like vinegar.
This place trades on its location and could be so much better.

We went here last night as well and i second the last 2 comments...
it has gone downhill again and full of low-lives we stopped going in about a month ago, as it started getting un savory characters in there and we as a group of girls never felt safe.
i think well have to join the hitchin boys in stevenage for the weekends now
THE CORN EXCHANGE --- WHAT A SHAME
|
was in here last night gradually over the last few weeks this venue has gone down hill,
not the usual laugh didnt enjoy it at all,
the dj sounded like he should have been at the fairground this was a poor night out we think that we ll start going to stevenage.......
|
Total dump!!!!
Nasty booze, rude staff!
Horrible, aggressive YOUNG chav customers!
awfull music, cheap, tatty decor and doesnt look or smell like it ever gets cleaned!
Not my cup of tea at all!!!!

Don't lean on any surfaces in here as you'll get glued by the stale alcopops the kids spill everywhere.
|
Really used to like going to the corn, but the new music and Dj's are a real turn off. Also the music attracts the wrong crowd, Ivory is a better bet (if you can get served!)
|
Went to the corn last night (friday), just got back from being abroad for nearly 10 months. Can't belive how much the place has changed, it used to be a good night out with freindly people but now its full of idiots. I always had to que to get in before but walked straight in (thats always a sign of bad change!), about 50% full at 11pm. I think they've tryed to push the place as a alternative mini London or something, but it seams to have failed badly. The best part of visiting the corn was leaving. All my freinds have said they dont want to go there again. Real shame used to like the place.
|
was at the corn this weekend fri and sat and was busy both nights , sat was a wicked blend of funky house music and packed with people who appreciate good house music
i got a flyer given to me on the way out that 17th FEB THE GROOVECUTTER from pacha in london is playin there
there getting loads of big names there now and its really turned the venue around in the last year
the resident DJ is wicked always has the croud bouncin' !!!!!!!!!!!
wicked weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Went to the house night, what a shame it was empty, place is always like that now!

went to the corn about 10.30 after visiting a few pubs - town was dead the corn was quite busy considering, it was that sundrenched saturdays the music was wicked ,
then it all of a sudden about 11 o'clock got very busy. it was like being in a club in a house club in london, we go to london 2 - 3 times a month to big house clubs and you would nt have known you was is hitchin...... a briiiillllliant night.
and the dj was telling everyone that DJ GRAHAM GOLD is down on the 27th of jan and he is doing a 3hr set
CANT WAIT ' BRING IT IN THE CORN EXCHANGE'
ITS ABOUT TINE HITCHIN DONE SOMETHING FOR US CLUBBERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
we wrer out here fri and sat this week , friday was a very busy night and we again had a really good time it is the no. 1 venue in town !
it was the pjama jam and all the staff was dressed up in bed wear and they had two areas where they had put beds down one for boys and oe for girls. it was a great laugh just wish more people would join in the fancy dress.
they have a winter beach party this friday so us girls will be in our beach wear its free to get in if your in fancy dress.

Several years ago I visited this place with a friend of mine and we had a nice afternoon. It had a nice atmos and civilised punters. However I paid a visit last weekend and how this place has changed. Its now full of chavs and a meeting ground fro the local village idiots. It was also very cold, and I dont know about you but burnt chips with my burger is not quite my thing. Also seems to be the hang out place for Hitchins chav single mums. Shame. Also what is it with all the flat screens everywhere?
|
after reading the last comment by hitchin boys i totally agree. it has got so much better in the last 4 months music brill, staff friendly and up for a laugh. us group go out every week and enjoy fridays and saturdays we went down last thursday and had a wale of a time. this is most def the best venue in hitchin us girls always have a good time. the manager always looks very serious but im sure he is ok (one of us girls thinks he s hot ) lol not gonna tell you which one party on into 2007 for us the party ladys you ll catch us every week at the corn
hi to adam who i met here 2 weeks ago on the sat (you know who you are) your a sweetheart xx
|
i have been going to the corn for 3 years now and i think that it is at its best. the music is better than it has ever been. firday nights the dj (i think his name is Jarvis) plays a mix of everything saturday nights its the same dj and he plays pure funky house the atmosphere is electric i love my house music (im sure i have seen this dj play at the cross in london ?)
all round its the best place in hitchin by far and they are putting on big names such as graham gold , the groovecutter , and the plastic tour (which i went to one of there do,s in birmingham and its wicked if you love house music
i cant believe the quality nights iv had there recently and you only have to pay 3 to get in
my advice GET YOUR SELF DOWN THERE FOR A NIGHT OF YOUR LIFE !!!!!!!!!!
|
This place was really looking up towards the summer, it was packed every weekend and the atmosphere was electric. Sadly around midsummer something went terribly wrong and the pub really went downhill, I mean you werent even allowed to wear sandals in the middle of summer!! I have been a regular visitor and the last 6 months has seen a rapid decline. Each weekend gets less and less people in, its one of those buildings that needs to be at least half full or it feels empty, the door staff have a bad attitude & the toilets are like something out of a horror film! I would recommend avoiding if you can. Try The Ivory on Brand Street, much better in my opinion - thats when you can get near the bar, its always packed!
|
Its crap but I still always end up in here. Hitchin is crying out for a decent late night venue.
Wish the pubs were open till 2
|
USED TO BE THE PLACE TO GO IN HITCHIN, GONE DOWN HILL IN LAST FEW YEARS, NOT VERY CLEAN AND VERY POOR TOILETS IE. NO SOAP, LOO PAPER AND A WHILE BACK NO TOILET SEATS. STAFF SEEM TO LEFT TO THIER OWN DEVICES.

It's not the place it used to be, it has gone backwards very badly

it's good! it's lovely on wednesday nights (got a date? take her there!) i like it on saturday nights and they're buckling their ideas up about the rediculous toilets! Bar staff probably needs an extra 3 pairs of hands & more room in the cloakroom but other than that good music & good times!
|
Ok in the week but far too busy on Friday and Saturday nights, huge queue to get in and takes far too long to get served once you've made it in! I've heard that they now have a huge screen for the footy, so come the world cup I may be tempted to make my return!
|
A good pub the whole week round. A good chill out music night open till 12 on wed ideal for you and the mrs. Then starts to liven up @ w'ends. New managers and recently new bouncers who are a winning team. Always served as quick as poss and served with a smile. Yes it does get busy but that Is not a bad thing would you rather have 14 foot of space around you while dancin like a larry? Foods nice now have wider menu selection and loads of offers.
|
mid-week, afterwork 5-8pm nice pub. Food suprisingly ok as well (microwave, but hey - it still tasted good). Needs a clean as place gets hammered (as do 99% of weekend customers). Best avoided on Fri+Sat nights - unless you really MUST pull that mini-skirted 18yr old! Not really sure what the attraction is these days - Hitchin has two clubs now (Penthouse & Zest) - both of which play better music and have less trouble.
|
Like "Heat" magazine came to life and opened its own pub. Bling as far as the eye can see...
|
Depends what you are looking for I guess. This is not a pub. It's a big bar, lots of floor, crowds of youngsters, masses and masses of drink, but all aimed at the younger crowd. Did not eat there, menu looked ok, but recognised the frozen descriptions from other places like it. Don't expect to have a conversations with anyone in there on a Friday night.

A rather towny pub, the new look corn exchange now has a dancefloor. This means in a town now devoid of clubs, the corn exchange provides a late night alternative. Unfortunatly it is not a very pleasant environment. The dancefloor is small and overcrowded. The bar is too small to serve the number people trying to be served. The toilets are too small to cope with the volume of traffic so the girls have to queue outside and into the club. And perhaps the most objectionable feature of the corn exchange is the heavy handed bouncers. It is a shame The Loft closed down...

Cheesy during friday and saturday nights, bearable during Other times. This place has gone well downhill since a refit in early 2004. takes ages to get served. decor is almost as naff as the people who frequent this place
