Nice pub, after a crap experience with the insolent landlord at Coopers Tavern glad to enter this welcoming pub.Pint of Burton Bitter followed by a couple of of country wines put me back in a good mood.
All I can say is the sloe wine is not slow!

Friendly pub & good quality ale, also arranged for a taxi to the football ground

Nice friendly boozer with Burton Bridge Ale starting at £2.90 for the Golden. Popped in on a Monday (Quiz night) and found the place nice enough, very friendly staff and great beer - the Golden, Draught and Plum Porter were particularly good. Parking available outside though it was full when we got there, street parking is available, I think it was fine after 6pm though you should definitely check that!

Excellent tied house for Burton Bridge brewery with excellent choice of beers and quality was good. Pork pies. Good atmosphere.

This pub was closed @3.30 on a Thursday afternoon. An absolute travesty in this day and age. Had heard it was a decent pub with a good pint so was slightly disapointed

Great pub a 2 minute walk from burton station. 6 ales on when i visited. Friendly staff.

My first visit to Burton-on-Trent and the first pub I visited was the Devonshire.
Football was on in town today with Aston Villa being the visitors and at 12 noon this place was already mobbed.
A Burton Bridge brewery pub with a good selection of their beers available, I had a lovely pint of Stairway to Heaven, perfectly kept and very good indeed.
Small 1 bar pub split into 2 rooms, with a garden out the back. Plac was so busy I had to stand out front on the forecourt.
Good little pub worth a visit if you haven't been already.

As mentioned, has a lot to do to compete with the Coopers mere yards away, but does an excellent job and the two pubs are running a joint beer festival in May with around 50 beers between them. Very decent Burton Bridge ales as well as a guest or two. Only went in the front bar this time, but the decor jars slightly with the old Victorian paint scheme on the outside - a modern bare brick wall catches the eye and is out of place with the character of the building itself. Not that important, I suppose, its otherwise a very good pub ideally situated a couple of hundred yards from the station, so excellent for the first and/or last stop on a circuit of brilliant real-ale pubs in the town.

Always visit this pub when in town, and have been going in sporadically for 20 years.Nothing needs to be said about Burton Bridge beers,to me they are the best there is,and Golden Delicious served here is the nectar of the gods. The Devi has a welcoming atmosphere, and you can take your pint across the road to Balti Towers,or order food from the cafe nearby to eat in.BB Brewery are a bit different from the mainstream and are to applauded for it,The Coopers is 2 minutes walk away, what more could you want?My only beef is probably a trivial one,but as a standy-uppy drinker, why has a table and chairs been sited right up against my favourite leaning pillar and shelf in the back room? Are they trying to tell me something?

Handy meeting place prior to a tour round Burton, being just round the corner from the station. Great pub, excellent Burton Bridge beers and wonderful arrangement with a local sandwich shop to order food!

Cracking clean and warm pub with great, helpful staff who were very welcoming to us Wimbledon fans last week. Is handily only a 2-3 minute walk from the station. Thoroughly enjoyed both of the Burton brewery ales that were on. The fella behind the bar was very knowledgeable and more than willing to give tasters. Food comes from the cafe down the road and a special mention to the monster breakfast sandwich we got from there, deary me for a tenner its a sight to behold and fed 6 of us! Have stopped off at many pubs over the years following the mighty Wombles and this is definitely one of the best.

Always my first stop when i'm in Burton. Nice Burton Bridge taphouse with welcoming staff and regulars too. Never miss here when in town!

Went into the Devenshire today for the first time in about 2 years. To lass behind the bar informed me that they'd stoped serving food about 12 months ago which is a real shame. Some of the seat coverings were looking a little tired bit this didn't detracked from the fine pint BB Porter that I had.

A proper old style pub with four Burton Bridge brews on offer. The Bridge Bitter was excellent. Sympathetically decorated to the way a small town pub should look.

Good ale and a good atmosphere. Highly recommended if you're near the station. It is tucked away from the main road. 9/10

Friendly place and well looked after.
Looks a little strange in the sense it is a white and blue house in the middle of a brewers/industrial estate on Station Street.
Burton Bridge owned and so plenty of BB beers.
Probably BB's third best pub after the Alfred and the Burton Bridge itself.

A nice enough comfortable pub with well kept beers but not much atmosphere - maybe because it wasn't very busy. Despite checking the week before and being assured they did lunchtime food there was none available. They did let us bring some in from the cafe 3 doors down. With the Coopers so close by they need to raise their game. Good enough to call in on a pub crawl but wouldn't go out of my way otherwise. Nice regulars in there - friendly and helpful with directions.

We would just like to add a note.....the devvie as it is well known is now in our capable hands! we have been running this little gem since April and hopefully made a change to the pub, it is clean, welcoming and the beer we serve is excellent as is the lunchtime food! I would also like to say massive thanks to the regulars that have supported us and the customers that have encouraged us, we value you all..Kev & Tracey

Haven't been in for a while, but when I'm in Burton, I always make this my first call off the train. Cheerful, real ale pub and very friendly staff and natives! Worth a visit!
|
Theres a new landlord & landlady at the Devvie now. Nicki and Carl are a hard act to follow, but Kev and Tracey are doing very well. The beer quality is excellent and the pub is very clean. We can't believe that this pub was omitted from the Good Beer Guide this year - maybe political??
|
I have tried the Devvie many times and have enjoyed the excellent beer served there but have never found myself wanting to stay for more than a couple of pints. I can't put my finger on why. Maybe its the atmosphere or perhaps because the Coopers' is just around the corner! Never-the-less I would recommend it.

Went in on Saturday, excellent beer from the Burton Bridge Brewery but I was very disappointed they werent serving food that Saturday lunchtime. Quite a few people walked in and walked straight out once they found out there was no food on! The lass behind the bar was very pleasant and apologetic. Ive eaten there before and food was very good.
|
The beer here last time I visited was fantastic.
|
excellent local boozer - dishing up Burton Bridge brews
|
Everytime we go to Burton we always go to "The Devvie". It has a warm welcoming atmosphere and no-ones a stranger! The food is of excellent standard and I can highly recommend one of the different real ales available. The managers Nicki and Carl are extremely friendly as is the regular barman John. Try this pub for casual, fun and tipsy nights out.
