The Fat Ox was the final pub I tried in Whitley Bay, as it doesn't open until 3pm on weekdays. This is clearly a popular place for live music with bands advertised most nights. One real ale was on - Three Kings Billy Mill. They also had Old Rosie cider. Beer for dogs was advertised. Strangely this was the second pub I'd seen this in. Seems to be a popular trait for this area.

Went in for last orders yesterday. Two ales on Theakstons Double Cross IPA & Adnams Explorer. There was a band on in the front part of the pub, but this didn't drown out the whole pub. Worth a visit.

Just had a small beer festival (17th - 22nd May) so things might be looking up on the real ale front.
|
5+ years on - 7-8 hand pumps (still there) and still only Old Rosie cider on offer :-wide range of clientele and friendly enough but quite cold and stark
|
No longer serves real ale. All handpumps have been removed.

Seamed friendly. Pool table is a plus. Olde worlde atmosphere.

This pub had 8 hand pumps, 7 of those and nothing at all to offer. all they were selling on hand pump was Old Rosie. The Fat Fox has a serious management problem.
