Worth updating I feel...

No longer John Barras / Spirit owned and no ale. Large interior in the 90s 'family pub' style. Staff and locals were friendly enough.

All of the barstaff appear to be students trying to top up their burseries and therefore dont seem to have their hearts in the job. Didn't get a particularly warm welcome and the assistant manager was positively rude. Smoking and non smoking areas inside the pub and a large garden at the side which unfortunately no longer contains any play things to occupy the children. John Barras, who own this pub, advertise themselves as being the 'heart of the community'. I'd do better trying to find a new community!

This pub has improved greatly following a change in management subsequent to being taken over by the John Barras Group in November 2004. I have recieved a warm and friendly welcome from most of the bar staff when using this pub although there are still a few members of staff who seem to be in the wrong trade! It has a happy and relaxed atmosphere. Drinks are a bit over priced for the area, however they have a good deal on Fosters and John Smiths Smooth. Food is pretty good, and they have an excellent deal on mondays and thursdays where you can get two meals for the price of one. Barras seem to have a policy where they have staff 'on the floor' who will not serve you even when the pub is busy. Still room for improvement, but will continue to use it.

This is a beautifully clean pub, and although has gone through a rough patch, is in my oppinion getting better. I have become aware that there is new management in this pub which seem to be making good improvements, and when I was in there the other day I noticed posters up for the bank holiday weekend advertising live music. This is truely a community pub and I will continue to use this pub in the future for both eating & drinking.

One of the finest Establishments in the local area, was greeted with a smile and a welcome, not seen in many pubs these days! A very clean and well preseted pub, with very helpful bar staff. Very good value for money, especially on a monday or thursday with the 2 for 1 meal deal! Very cheap beer compared with other local pubs - 1.80 Fosters 1.70 house doubles!!! I will definitley be returining to this pub!

Greeted with Yeh! No welcome smile or what would you like. Paid 1 to play Andy Williams record which was promptly rejected by the barstaff. Placemats pushed into our hands rather than placed on the table. Not a good start to a relatively new Barras. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. My family and I will not use the Gloucester again.
