Lakeside Inn, Gatesheadback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Lakeside was our second stop of the day after the One Eyed Stag in Whickham, near to where we had stayed the night. I have requested for that to be added to the site. But, the Lakeside was poor. It's a typical family mass dining establishment, which caters more for diners than drinkers. Doom Bar is the solitary real ale. The place was packed out and they were turning many people away as they could not cope. Moved on from here to the Greyhound, which is not listed on here and is not worth adding.

Recently visited the lakeside inn for a meal and drinks with family and am shocked with the comments posted. I really enjoyed my time and the food was lovely. I was escorted to my table in the very nice restaurant it has, and all my drinks were got by the waiter who soon followed with menus when ordered we where told that the a la carte menu was all cooked fresh so it would take a little bit time to cook. I ordered the black pudding starter and the chicken with the mushroom sauce my family also had starters. They were out within 10 minutes and in my opinion at a very high standard the waiter collected our starters and asked if everything was ok 5 minutes later our main meals arrived and the standard didnt slip the chicken was moist and the sauce was excellent i cundnt manage a dessert but the waiter explained that they was a reopening night soon and a new menu to go with it, which i will be looking forward to try. So overall a excellent night had by all with excellent service

There are a few words which describe this awful place, but let me paint a picture first. My wife and me drove from West Yorkshire to collect my new car. Laughing and joking all the 117 mile way looking so forward to our new toy. We drove past The Lakeside Inn and noticed the Yorkshire bargain of 2 main meals for 9. We were planning to go to the Taybarn just by the garage we picked the car up from. "No" we thought let's go to a pub and have that Yorkshire bargain. That where it went wrong. We arrived and looked at the board containing the meals and went to the bar after choosing. What do you want? was the question as we haven't got all that available. First question from me was why they weren't crossed off? Ordered, we sat and talked like 2 young children opening a bag of sweets, not knowing what delights we were about to look at with our new car. Time passsed quickly, people were served, then we realised people who ordered after us were served and eating and on one table had in fact finished! My wife went to the bar to enquire where our food was as we orderd it 45 mins ago to be told "I'll go and check" 5 mins later and 2 empty glasses at the front of the table later - It'll be 2 mins. 5 more mins and we were told there had been a mix up with the tickets and what did we order? 10 mins later we received our meals. Dry and microwaved. At no point did we get an apology, at no point were we offered a drink on the house to keep us happy, at no point were asked if we were happy with our meals. Given a choice, if you read this review, do not go to this awful place. The service is rubbish, the staff don't know how to apologise, they will not keep their customers. We spoke to some locals ladies who were on the next table who also had problems and they said they would never come back again. I thought about complaining, but because the service was so poor, long and delayed we actually had to leave very quickly after we had eaten so that we could start our long journey home. Taybarns is about 2 miles along the road. GO THERE, DO NOT GO HERE. THIS PLACE HASN'T IMPROVED OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS LOOKING AT THE OTHER REVIEWS.

went to the lakeside hebburn on friday 29 jan for my 50th birthday and am not very happy had to eventually ask for a menu because nobody was offering us it that was after telling staff we were booked for 7 oclock. I picked the lakeside because it looked a nice place in driving pass i had never heard anything good or bad about it.Ordered starter there was only one starter a would have eaten thats not chefs fault thou, the three of us enjoyed our starter, after waiting till 8.20 we were finally served with our main course steak was lovely medium rare and it was a treat the chips were a absalute disgrace they should never been served to anyone they were burnt black i couldnt believe it, waiter came and asked if everything was ok we told him steaks were very nice but chips were a disgrace he said he would tell chef we never heard anymore about it,The service was very slow and it wasnt that busy two young lads eventually gave up nd told waiter they werent waiting any longer and walked out a couple next to us came in at 7.15 and told us they lived next door and had to be home for 9 oclock the wife left at 9 oclock to leave husband to have his sweet.I was so looking forward to a nice time for my 50th but it was a shambles,

Food Service: Taken One Hour for Starter Main Courses were dry and not in the least fresh on arrival at the table. Total disinterest from waiting staff as to comments on meal. no apology or interest about meals or service.

Ah, the Lakeside - back in the day (well, 1994 for me) it was surprisingly a place to be seen on a Friday night- indie video jukebox, cute Jarrow girls and cheaper than going to the Toon. Went back a year or so ago and could barely recognise the place. I guess everyone goes to the town or Shields these days..

Hilarious, I went here loads of times, had a couple of mates who lived on the Fellgate estate. Why no reviews? I remember it was vaguely appealing but all the same provisos as on my review of the Prince of Wales apply - it was years ago, I was a kid, and I was going through a "chav" phase.
