Left Hounslow a few years ago, popped in recently but was dissapointed. Had great memories of the banter between staff and the regulars, obviously its in a dodgy area and you sometimes get scumbags but it was the laughter I remembered. Stayed for a few hours hoping it would pick up but left dissapointed.

Says it all.....Polish. This was once England. Can we have it back, please

The Duke of Cambridge is from what I've seen so far a fairly welcoming pub. Although the regulars talk alot of bollocks, if taken with a pinch of salt they can be surprisingly receptive of new people and perhaps their bark is worse than their bite.
Though the Duke is becoming a Polish hangout, unless your apart of the BNP most people should not find this a problem as the crowd tend to be willing to talk to you unagressively and the food served on the right hand side of the pub is surprisingly good (this coming from someone who appreciates English cuisine).
On a friday night the Duke hosts a polish disco, and with the change of DJ's the atmosphere and music has definiately changed for the better. The music from what I've seen goes from a mix of R'n'B to House music.
On a saturday night the Duke hosts a rock night (though many would suggest its a metal night). Ranging from classic metal (metalica, iron maiden and kansas), punk and ska (less than jake, rancid, the offspring) and rock (queens of the stone age, foo fighters and muse), you could do much worse for a good night out with friends. My only complaint is perhaps Nine Inch Nails is played a bit too much?
The bar staff are friendly, out going and willing to teach a little bit of polish to those interested in furthering their cultural educations. For a pub in Hounslow, you could do much worse and I have found the smoking ban has really seperated the wheat from the chaff, especially within this area. Lets hope this pub goes from strength to strength.

WellWhat can I say, lets start here.
Barbee, you clearly havent been to many urban pubs.
I like the locals and the fact that they look like they of from Deliverance is representative of the population in that area. In fact on a Saturday its more like a Marilyn Manson video!
The beer is average to good depending on your tipple and those carpets are lino near the bar carefully crafted to look like carpet near the edge of the room and under furniture.
I think Clueless Halfwit is the nicest thing anyone has said about Mark. For the record the bar manager is responsible for the beer stocks, so if they run out shout at Leon (the Emo with the baby beard). The arrangement with the Pit (Londons premier Rock night) is that all patrons pay to attend the entertainment and that they are responsible for ALL the security that night. Therefore it must be empty to start withyes it makes sense now. On Fridays the arrangement is different hence you can stay in and avoid the 3 for the Polish night, but then you miss out of the free apple vodka voucher that comes with the entrance fee. If it wasnt for these two events the pub would have been closed down long ago as it would not be viable with just the regulars / locals.
Things change, people dont like change, so they have a moan on the internet. Right now Im off to find pictures of young ladies with no clothes on.Byeeeeeeeeeee

Oh my God, I thought I had been in some shit holes in my day but this must be what all the others aspire to be! The beer is shit, the clintele mostly look like extras from Deliverance and your feet stick to the floor when you attempt to escape, all that said the staff are very friendly but thats about the only upside to this place. Avoid at all costs unless you like dueling banjos!

Well having a Polish Rock night on a friday as I saw last week is not a bad idea seeing as most of the population in the area are from Poland. The only problem is that most of the weekday fights in Shannons are caused by the eastern block lot, and as they are 'tightening-up' on punters then I hope the Landlord knows that they trouble will move to the Duke....shame.

Good pub, cheap prices, Great regulars...But the pub is being turned into a Polish Pub?...Oh well seeing as most of Hounslow and Slough is Poland now!
Saw a really pretty barmaid in there once, but I think she's left?

West London has been waiting for a pub like this for years: Saturday night it is now host to the famous Rock night "The Pit" with the best doormen in London. Live bands are on the agenda to. They are slowly installing a collection of macabre decor that looks amazing.
|
What a change in just a few months, fun & friendly with a new bar layout and new decor.
Saturday is the happening night for rock/metal/goth/emo and all that stuff. Doormen are friendly and helpful but don't let in non-rock people on Saturdays.
I hear that its going to become a live venue soon during the week soon.
This place has definitely gone up in the world.

A vast improvement over the last couple of months. I wouldn't drink in here often, but it's worth a few hours of your time on a Saturday night.
|
Now a super litttle pub with a great selection of locals. New Pool table, small friendly atmosphere, that can be nearly tripled in size when required.
|
Since this place has come under new management it's actually a really good boozer. Proof that miracles can happen as per my comments below.
It is unfortunate that it's located in a pretty grotty part of Hounslow (adjacent the bus garage - that always smells of piss and tramps).
This pub will be my top choice if I was going out on a Saturday in Hounslow. Rock music from 8 til late and there's no trouble. The doormen don't give you any grief (unless, of course, you deserve it!) and the drinks are incredibly cheap, 2 x Fosters, 1 x Vodka & Lemonade = 6.50
Well done, the guv'nor for completely transforming this pub into somewhere you're not ashamed to be.
Although, the toilets could do with a clean. ;)

Saturday 8th April 2006 What a night, simply the best night weve had in ages. This is now the home of the legendry Pit night club, which used to be at the John Bull Chiswick and more recently the Black Horse Richmond. The very best in nu-metal, goth, heavy metal and dark music. If you like bottled larger, chicken in a basket, watching football on the pub screen or playing dominos in the pubyou are going hate it here. If Kerrang had a pub..it would be this one. Black is a great colour, but if you are wearing White, coming in, its a friendly club, but you will stand out a mile. This venue is going to become a one of the best known music venues in West London, travel couldnt be any better, train, 24 hour buses and the tube with two CCTV covered public car parks, outside a Police station are less than 1 minute away. If I could I would marry this pub!

The true definition of Spit 'n' Sawdust! They say you can never judge a book by it's cover but you can if this pub's anything to look at!
It directly adjacent Hounslow Bus Garage which is notorious for being crime-hell and grime-hell. Inside is filled with Irish drunks, withered old men and football thugs. I walked in and promptly out, thinking I'd either get mugged, beaten or bum-raped!! Almost slipped on week-old spillages due to the obvious lack of cleaning. It's dark and dingy and smells like a fishmonger's workshop.
There's a sign outside promoting cheap drinks to women! Wonder why! I think it'll be a cold day in hell when you get decent totty in there.
Yuck! Filthy!! Try The White Bear on the other side of Hounslow East Station if you're looking for somewhere more amiable.

The sort of place where two men stand on a 'stage' and play their guitars to the accompaniment of a drum machine, and what's more those gathered think nothing of it. Me and my friend used to pop in on our way to the student union for a sly JD and coke if the H37 showed signs of running late. These are the only circumstances under which this pub functions. Good for: smash and grab style drinking.

A long suffering freehouse. Slowly being refurbished, now with a new paint job and furniture, but down to ne pool table. Have events most nights. Owners very freindly to all.
