Slug and Lettuce apparently reopening in Charter Square development.

Bugger the slug & lettuce!!! I agree, bring back the Outrigger. Had many a fun evening in there.
|
The Outrigger was blown out of the water by the Slug not fifty feet from its front door. Both are now closed, the Outtie being demolished some years ago (the whole area, right up to where the Two Brewers was and the dole office being a huge piece of wasteland). A real waste indeed.
I was surprised to see The Slug closed as I thought the yuppies that drank (and ate) there brought in tons of cash but times are hard for pubs around that way. The restaurant and Royal Barge just along near the bridge have also been closed for some time. Between the Boaters and the Bishop there's....nowt!
The Outrigger joined the list of extinct Kingston pubs along with The Two Brewers, The Dolphin, The Row Barge, The Lamb, the Cambridge Arms (crap though it was), the Duke Tavern and the Liverpool Arms. Too few drinkers and too costly to keep open...

I cant believe Roy is dead. No tribute in the Comet. Pah the times there are a changing.

Slug & lettuce = One of the worst pubs in Kingston, glad its closed.
Bring back the Outrigger - what great fun - good old fashioned pub with an atmosphere.
RIP Roy Stringer aka Captain Carruthers
(PS I'd join the "I drunk in the Outrigger Society"!!)

I used to be the Manager at the Outrigger and it was the best fun I ever had!

The Outrigger was Heaven. This place is Hell - actually thats been a bit hard on Hell. Aviod. Buying a couple of cans, sitting on the riverside and remembering the Captain & crew of the Outrigger is much more fun. (even if you never went there!) Anybody want to start a 'I drank in the Outrigger Society'?

If your sole requirements for a pub are four walls, a roof and alcohol available for a price, then this should do you. Want anything else - then go elsewhere. Above comments apply to all chained up, chavved up lager pits of old Kigston town. Hit the suburb's suburbs and you might find a proper pub.

Rude staff, no atmosphere. Don't bother.

Characterless & crap. They demolished the glorious old Outrigger in favour of this! - a great shame.

Refered to localy as 'the hanger' as it feels like you have stepped into an aircraft hanger. Its either empty and cold, or you feel like you have been shoved into the black hole of culcutta with added sweat!
Otherwise like short guy says.

Quite a lame place really. Its worth taking an extra 5 mins to walk down to the Boaters.

Short Guy is right yet again, God, he gets around as much as i do! Will not be attending this venue too quickly as my ears are still pounding from last time i went, comfy sofas but you have to get there at an early hour, otherwise you'll be standing until all hours whilst loner goofy looking business men and their briefcases take up as many seats as they can and make their only pint last two hours!

Chain pub, If youve been to one youve been to them all. Nice view. Foods good for the price. Starting place for most river cruse parties. Can go from packed to ghost town in the blink of an eye. Music is earsplittingly loud. (think jet engines strapped to your head) Has a pool table and a TV on which i viewd Englands 5 goals against Germany, hence i love the place.
Lots of sofas. Take a lithuanian frase book as this may be required for comunication with the staff.

The glass enclosing the outside area of the pub makes you feel like you're in a fishbowl. The windows dont open despite overlooking the river, so in summer prepare to sweat to death.
