The Swan, Abbotsbury

My boyfriend and I went to this pub with our whippet the week after Easter and weren�t expecting too much having seen some of the reports on this page. However, we were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I ordered the rack of ribs which was massive with plenty of chips and a good sized salad garnish and the chef, having told me they had no coleslaw, actually went and bought the ingredients and made me some from scratch (I have to say this was the best coleslaw I�d had in ages!!) The staff were perfectly friendly and were quite clearly happy to go out of their way to make us happy. We would definitely come back to this pub next time we visit.

The Star Inn, Alfriston

Perfectly good pub which unfortunately was a little empty when we visited apart from a wedding party out the back. (it was damp February saturday night though and Alfriston seems like a quiet little town so I guess it was unlikely to be buzzing!) . Had a perfectly pleasant meal but was horrified to pay �11 for two small glasses of wine!! Even the barman had to look twice.! Unfortunately we were too late to swap it for a bottle which would have only be �15.95. We didn't try any of the other pubs in Alfriston so it may be that all the pubs are dear there! However, the bar staff were friendly and we enjoyed our evening!
