The Bell Inn, Denver

The front-of-house Barman here must be one of the most amiable within 50 miles! A smile here. a word there, never flaps, drifts along....keeps his beer in good shape - I never fail to leave the place completely de-stressed! This is a good pub, easygoing with good food and a good atmosphere.

The Green Man, Methwold Hythe

It's in a tiny village, tucked away off the beaten track, and full of locals....why would anyone else visit it? Well, the answer is that it is one of the friendliest places in the area (the owners AND the locals!), serves an excellent pint of Elgoods with two or three guest beers always alongside, and does great, fresh, well-cooked food. Lesley and Gary are something more than publicans: they keep a whole community together.....and if you want to see that in action, try their Breakfast Club at the end of each month. Actually, don't: it's far too popular already!

The Crown Hotel, Downham Market

This is a great, unpretentious town centre pub. Always an interesting selection of ales, in good condition, and served by quietly efficient and friendly bar staff. Open fires, pine panelling and pictures of the bomber squadron based in Downham during the war add atmosphere - although just occasionally some of the locals get a bit fractious (we were once entertained by a great ongoing punch-up amongst a funeral party!). If you want food, it's giant portions quickly and efficiently served - some of the best Ham and Eggs in the region. I've visited often - never been disappointed.
