Crown and Goose, Camden

Was in here recently with the missus. Ale was ok. Food could have been better.

Staff were friendly and pleasant.

The Assembly House, Kentish Town

Absolute toilet. The one thing they could be good at (given the amount of space etc) is showing the football. And they're rubbish at that also.

Weavers Bar, Barnet

The hospitality at this place is second to none, from the cheery Irish barmaid to the friendly regulars, I would certainly recommend this to anyone visiting the area, and the Guiness is excellent.

Serves a rather peculiar combination of English and Thai, but it seems to work and certainly our food went down well and everyone in the party enjoyed themselves.

The Prince Albert, Camden

This is one of my regular and favourite haunts when I'm down in Camden, and I had the distinct misfortune of being in the Albert when the MTV crowd were in there a while before Christmas (as described below in another post).

Whilst I fully appreciate that Christmas is a time for parties and general frivolity, I would find it very difficult to describe the MTV crowd as anything other than base animals.

I was booked into the restaurant with my elderly parents, and the entire evening was wrecked by the behaviour of a minority of their party, who seemed to feel as though they could carry on as they saw fit to the detriment of everyone else around. Quite how the police weren't called is a bit of a mystery. If I had been working there I would have thrown them out very early on. They were simply disgusting, and we were certainly not the only people to feel this way - I saw a number of others voicing their concerns about their behaviour.

Perhaps their very frequent visits to the toilet and a sprinkling of something other than snow put them in a particularly aggressive and very disruptive mood.

Not only did a number of them square up to the manager, who appeared to be handling the situation very well, I might add, but when we left the restaurant and came down to the bar area, they verbally abused my elderly mother who was forced to leave in tears.

If this is what constitutes a good night out for these people, perhaps they should chose to go elsewhere in future, as I'm sure that none of the other patrons that night felt their debauched behaviour was particularly amusing or pleasant.

After discussing the incident the next day on the telphone with the Albert we received a voucher for a free meal for four, which was fair in my opinion, however I feel that perhaps it should have been the MTV shower that should have paid for this....Disgusting people!

The Griffin, Whetstone

Great pub. Great beer garden. Enough said.

The Orange Tree, Totteridge

The Orange Tree used to be a fantastic pub. I remember being taken there by my grandparents 30 years ago and having to book four/five weeks in advance to get a table for the Sunday roast.

I have been back there a number of times in the intervening years and it has slowly gone down hill for differing reasons.

What is left is now little more than a fairly average bistro in a beautiful pub exterior. Sadly the food is not great and the atmosphere on the inside doesn't match the beautiful setting.

Would still go there on a balmy summer's evening, just to sup a pint in such a pretty location. Such a crying shame that they can't do better with what's on offer!

The Three Hammers, Mill Hill

This pub has not always been as dull and soul-less: it used to be a great pub. However, I guess this is what you get when a pub is taken over by a chain, who apply their 'tried and tested' formula across the board. Real shame.

It's also true that it seems to attract the rich kid / brat crowd on certain days, drinking their diet cokes and squaking at each other while losing money to the fruities.

Not a particularly nostalgic man, but I yearn for the return of this potentially great pub's haydays.

The Oxford Arms, Camden

I quite like this pub, in spite of some of the other comments posted here: it's comfortable, the staff are pleasant and helpful and the beer is not expensive. The food is certainly not as bad as others have said - it is decent enough in my opinion.

Just a shame that they don't have a garden, but then this is London and space is fast running out in these parts!!

The Abbey, Kentish Town

Peculiar service at this fairly dear 'gastro'-style pub. Sometimes good, sometimes downright rubbish.

Food, as others have commented on, is at best average and at worst, pretty poor.

Decent selection of beers and wines, if a little expensive (especially if you have a girlfriend who orders by the vat).

The Bell House, Camden

Great beer garden and friendly staff.

Would recommend.

The Assembly House, Kentish Town

Fairly rude staff spoil what could be a great location on the high street and close to the tube station.

Beautiful old pub which is, I think, listed and rightly so.

Would very carefully consider eating there!

The Adam and Eve, Mill Hill

Decent enough pub, but in bad need of some tlc on the inside. Starting to look rather tired and dog-eared in places. Also lacks atmosphere when quiet (which seems to be rather too often).

Lovely garden in the summer.

The Prince Albert, Camden

I like this place.

Alright, it may not sit comfortably in the 'pub' category and would probably describe itself more as a 'gastropub', but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The area already has The Golden Lion, Constitution and Camden Arms no more than 50m away, and so is more than adequately provided for in that respect.

The Albert, on the other hand, appears to have chosen to concentrate more on food, and it's pretty decent stuff. My self and my wife ate there last Thursday and both ate from the set menu that offered two courses for 9, and represented excellent value for what we ate.

So in the context of the area, The Prince Albert fills a very real gap, in my opinion. They also really do have some of the best restrooms in the area.

The Prince Albert, Camden

Went there for Sunday roast last weekend - absolutely top notch. Good food, reasonable price and killer desserts - plus ate out in the garden. Will be back.
