Mendoza, Aylesbury

Mendoza's seems to be aimed at the post-party crowd as it has quite a pleasant ambience, no really loud music and a decent selection of food. There is a comedy act every weekend, there was live music during the week but this is being discontinued. I'd dare to suggest it's a place to go for those of us old enough to know better but young enough not to want to go home at 11pm.

Bull, Aylesbury

It's one of those rarities nowadays, a pub that is actually a pub, not a glorified McDonalds. Pool table, lounge & saloon bar, decent pint of Adnams (Tetley was OK too). Nothing fancy but then nothing too horrible either. Will probably be 's in now that the Woolpack has sadly burnt down.

The Dark Lantern, Aylesbury

not the Dark Lantern anymore, it's called My Place (probably a pun on MySpace) with a view to bringing in the after hours crowd. It might work but it's situation in town, stuck down an alleyway and not much in the way of passing trade, probably won't help, good luck anyway.

The Steeplechase, Southcourt

now closed down and all boarded up

The Greyhound, Aylesbury

This is now shut down, and is going to be turned into a Muslim Education Centre or something like that. Good riddance it wasn't very good anyway, but a wasted opportunity

The Victoria Club, Aylesbury

It's a working man's (& women's) club. So therefore it mainly exists to serve cheap alcohol to the overworked and underpaid of Aylesbury. There's a darts and pool team, and they have a fishing club. You won't find any aggro in here, nor will you find a fantastic night out either. But it is good for watching football on the telly and at (currently) 1.35 a pint what more do you want?

The Old Plough and Harrow, Aylesbury

The Plough And Harrow seems to have been stuck in a 1970's time warp since, well, the 1970's, possibly due to its position on the island known as Aylesbury Gyratory System.

Dark, dingy and rather unhospitable, though if you're a builder & Chelsea fan this is the pub for you as you'll feel right at home. Enjoy the pleasant experience of sitting in their postage sized beer garden watching 100's of cars driving past, any time of the day or night.

Brewsters, Aylesbury

This place has now gone upmarket with lots of brown and cream decor. Beer was all off tap when we visited, but the food was good. No longer child friendly though, the ball pit has gone.

The Firecrest, Aylesbury

I read some of the comments below about the poor food service, but my wife and I went here and there was no problem with it, hey ho. A nice meal, if somewhat overdone a touch, an indifferent pint of Wadsworth XXXX. A little TLC and this could be an outstanding place to go, specially in the beer garden with its views of the nearby hills.

The Village Gate, Wendover

Apparently this is now turning into a pub / Greek Cypriot restuarant. Watch this space.

The Hop Pole Inn, Aylesbury

A real pub, not one of the glorified gin palaces. Handpulled ale, selection changes regularly, and also Staropramen on tap along with the ubiquitous Guinness. Just a very good place to go for a drink.

Aristocrat, Aylesbury

Aristocrat used to be a great pub, Fullers, a good atmosphere, a good crowd. Nowadays is a mere shadow of what it was. If you're a builder, scaffolder or just an all-round wide boy then this is the pub for you. If you ain't, then don't bother and head across the road to the Broad Leys.

Cotton Wheel, Aylesbury

Oh my god where do you start. Typical estate pub, lots of locals. The food is quite cheap and plentiful, though a couple of Sundays we went they had run out of roast dinners. The staff were more interested in watching the football than serving!!! Whilst eating your food you can overhear the local pikeys, who make up 90% of the clientele, talking about their upcoming court cases, who got arrested last night, or who they had a fight with the other day. The beer is pretty crap (Greene King IPA which tasted about 3 weeks old, Fosters, Kronenberg) and there's a TV room next door full of dossers drinking away their giros. Stay well clear (unless your a pikey that is). A horrible place to spend a hour or two. Three stars for the pub, but to be fair seven stars for the food. If they haven't run out of it again. PS there is a really good fish and chip shop across the car park, but try not to get run over by Nova drivers doing wheelspins to impress their 12-year old girlfriends

The Queens Head, Aylesbury

A pub where the locals look at you as if you just landed from Mars. 2.50 for a mediocre pint of Flowers IPA. Spit and sawdust. One for the locals I think, lots of better pubs in Aylesbury. Oh yeah and the jam sessions - great, if you can ever get on stage that is. Rather cliquey.
