The George Inn, Eartham

Oh dear. Thats all I will say.

The Crown Inn, Burchetts Green

Popped in with a friend for a pint this evening. Two beers on, asked for one barman tried then said it was off would we like the other, pulled through the pump and said there was a problem with the gas. We were the first customers in early evening and I cannot understand how this problem was not noticed at lunchtime. To my mind this counts as poor service as I would think that the pumps should be checked before every service and if there is a problem at least turn the badges around. Barman did not seem particularly interested in having customers in.

Bird in Hand, Reading

Re-opened on the 1st April, went in tonight -6th April- to see if all the talk on the Reading Forum is correct and although they have 3 ale pumps they had no ale on, I was offered a bottled ale instead. If I want bottled beer I would buy it in a shop not go into a pub. Absolutely unbelievable. I may go in tomorrow to see if they are selling any as it could not possibly be tapped and ready.

The Horse and Groom, Alresford

Quite simply an appalling pub.

The Red Lion, Mortimer West End

Waited 5 minutes for someone to just acknowledge that I was there at 13:45 on a Saturday lunchtime before leaving without seeing a single member of staff. There are plenty of places that I can get a drink without waiting what I consider a long time for a member of staff to even get behind the bar.

The Duke of York, Victoria

Went in last night with some Romanian friends, when one was given his change, instead of 3 1 coins he was given two 1 penny coins sandwiched between two pound coins. When I questioned this the look of shock on the barmans face was a picture as I have an English accent. It is absolutely disgraceful what he was doing and to think of the amount of foreign visitors this pub must get, they must make a lot by ripping people off. If what other reviewers have said about serving slops is true as well then the place needs to be avoided although sadly as it is in a prime position the management will not bother doing anything if they are making a lot of money.

The Purefoy Arms, Preston Candover

I called in on Friday evening and waited at the bar for a good five minutes without even being acknowledged despite no-one else waiting to be served. I left without saying anything as there are too many other places I can get a drink either promptly or at least having been made aware that I have been seen and will be served as soon as possible. With the amount of pubs closing when new people take a place on, they really should be making an effort to every customer who walks in the door.

The Trout, Itchen Abbas

3:35 for a pint of Olde Trip. an absolute disgrace. How they can justify that is beyond me. The reason I paid was I had already taken a mouthful when the girl returned from the till and only then told me the price.

The Swan, Broadway

I went in with two female Spanish friends and the attitude from the lady serving, towards them was absolutely disgraceful. It was fortunate for me that I had not spoken first as it allowed me to notice the change when I spoke in unbroken English. As this pub is in a big tourist area I suggest they train the staff so even if they do not like people from overseas, it is not so blatently obvious.

The Avon, Southam

Not very impressed. Although I never tried either, I would love to know what makes both the 'Avon burger and 'Avon bbq ribs' "famous". Famous in Avon Dassett maybe but not coming from these parts but not too far away, I had never heard of their so called famous dishes. The pate was certainly not made on the premises (although they never claimed it was, but on the Christmas Menu it does say "our chefs pride themselves on preparing fresh, wholesome, home cooked foods...") and was the bland rubbery type that you know is just bought in, cheap with no quality. On the plus side, the Timothy Taylor was well kept and enjoyable. Overall, expensive poor quality food but good beer.

Hinds Head, Aldermaston

Have to agree about the food being poor. I also saw one of the 'chefs' wearing jeans that were the modern type that hang down like builders normally wear. Had I noticed this earlier there is no way I would have ordered any food. I think the management really ought to make sure that people handling food are wearing the correct clothing.

The Greyhound, Whitchurch on Thames

Maybe I'm getting old but this is the sort of pub that I enjoy going to. Decent real ale, food looks simple but good and plentiful (Not eaten here though). Just a good place to go for a drink and to socialise.

The Hare and Hounds, Marlow

Pretentious place. Was supposed to stay for the evening but left after 1 drink. I think the fact they were used for the filming of 'The Restaurant' has gone to their head's.

The Rising Sun, Cinderford

Really enjoyed this pub. As someone from outside the Forest I found the landlord and locals very friendly. Also enjoyed the fact that the real ale choice changed frequently. Living where I do, prices for the beer was like going back in time a couple of years!
