The Gladstone, South Norwood

Just about open but still has broken windows and in a pretty sorry state, depressing place to walk past, let alone go in

The Stamford Arms, Lambeth

This is my lunchtime local and I think its great. Full of perhaps unusual but funny locals, plus level headed, down to earth office workers

If you want a decent pint (lager or ale)some honest pub grub and perhaps a game of darts ( thats what I do at lunch!) you cant beat it. They also put on a great quiz night there.

A proper honest boozer. Recently they have a complete change of staff which seems to have slowed the food service down which is a shame. Can anyone confirm it hasnt changed hands at all? Only negative will be theres NO ventalation so if you dont like smoky pubs then avoid.

Otherwise I love this place and would recommend it to all. 9/10

Anyway, great pub, onl

The Ring, Southwark

Not a bad boozer although the ale selection is poor. Unless you like your London Pride, which I dont. Do some nice Thai food in there as well with a friendly waitress who served the food.

Can get crowded but then most pubs round here do and its manages it better than others.

Worth a pint or two

The Windmill Tavern, Waterloo

A nice boozer this. Beer us usually pretty good with Spitfire being my first option! Staff are friendly and never had to wait long to be served. Always seem to have 3 or 4 staff at least.

Eaten there once and its been pretty good although I have heard it has its off days. But pretty good value if you like Thai.

They are an honest bunch too. My mate very atupidly left his laptop bag in there, with his ipod in there too! He thought hed lost it all, but at 11am the next morning he got a phonecall saying they had his bag. It was great to hear that there are still some decent people in London.

Id recommomend this place, good mixture of lagers and ales, and good food. Oh and Johnny Vegas was in there last time I was in!

The White Hart, Waterloo

This is place is the pots and unfortunately because of its location its constantly full so the manager obviously doesnt have to think about running a good pub. Full of office groups, particularly IBM who cram in their despite its obvious short fallings.

I only went there once before Richard left and we had a great night. He put on some food for us but because a delivery hadnt been made he went down to Tescos and bought endless boxes of frozen party food. And charged us cost price! We had so much we ended up handing it round the pub. Be great to find out where hes gone.

This place is just miserable now. Staff are rude and obviously hate theire job. Its possibly one of the worst designed pubs in London. It was bad before its refurb. The new owner then decided to make the bar area even bigger by adding a bit at the back. But they dont serve from there. Whys it there then! Plus you are constantly told not to stand anywhere near the wrong side of it. Despite it being an empty space.

This place has gone to the dogs. Plenty if better boozers nearby that are less crowded, the staff arent sullen and they have some idea how to treat their customers.

Avoid!

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

Again, I would say its a great little boozer this. Great variety of ales. Had a pint of Eden which was ok but the Adnams was lovely. Food is pretty standard but with Thai on nearly every other pub menu it might make a welcome change for some.

Has its own non smoking area, rather spoilt while I was there, by the staff meeting going on in, who were all smoking like chimneys!

All in all worth a go.

The Bell, Southwark

Just popped down for a quick pint at lunchtime. It was around 2.00pm so outside any lunchtime rush I guess but it was still very quiet. One couple sat in the corner, me and the barman.

Nice enough boozer, shame its out of the way. No real ale to speak of. Worthingtons is the closest you get. Had a pint of Carling which was actually very good.

Not sure what it would be like in the evenings. Near a large estate so may get a more "down to earth" crowd of an evening!

Worth a try if you fancy a game of pool and a decent lager.

The Defector's Weld, Shepherds Bush

Yes it aint a traditional pub but as long as that isnt your number 1 priority then its a nice place. Good sized pubs with comfortable lounge seats and armchairs dotted about. It was busy when I was in, just before a gig at the Empire but still found a place to sit. Booze is ok, nothing special. The missus had a nice glass of wine, should be at 4.50, and I tried the Guiness and the Staropramen. All the ale, bar London Pride and IPA was off. So would have suited some ale drinkers.Nothing spectacular from either pints but they werent a bad pint.

Must have been there on a bad night for bar staff. Very attentive and quick to serve but no good looking ladies for me!

All in all a nice place for a pre gig drink, though I would have been happy there all night.
