The Sportsman 'Time Well Spent', Mogador

This website is used far too often for negative comments ( myself included ) so credit where it is due and everyone has a different experience wherever they go.
That is why as an ex landlord of over 15 years experience, critical to the last and genuinely refreshed i post my comments.
We visited for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday at 1.30 ( not an ideal time for the trade ) and yes it was busy and yes there were lots of walkers and dogs ( what do you expect ! ) but we were still welcomed, found a table quickly and made comfortable.
It's been a long time since i found a place that looks good, the staff were excellent, chatty, knew their stuff and personable.( Katie was our waitress but other three were equally as attentive ).
Water without asking, an Indian dip whilst waiting and the food arrived within 10 minutes.
Food was excellent, drink was good and toilets spotless.
Sirs, your pub was a breath of fresh of air and many could learn a lot, i am no longer in the trade but will be back, i am not related or have any interest in The Sportsman but wish i did !
Well Done.

The Shy Horse, Chessington

Not been here for a while but came last Sunday for a family meal which wasn't my choice.
Shocked, Great service by a lady who seemed to do it all ( Sarah i think ) food was better than i expected having experienced Vintage cuisine and a generally well kept pub/restaurant with a decent vibe.
The waitress was one in a million and deserves a well done as too many people (myself included) are all too easy to criticize.
A much better option than The Star which has declined over the past year, give this a try

The Kings Arms, Epsom

Simply wanted to find out what was happening with this pub, being a local i haven't visited for a while due to previous bad experiences and though about maybe giving it another shot so i decided to look at the Butcher & Barrel website.
Why when i click The Kings Arms link do i get redirected to the KINGSWOOD ARMS ?
Not a great start but will give it a chance when it reopens.

The Cock Inn, Headley

Oh dear Oh dear, the owners clearly have no clue, car park is a death trap with no lights in the evening an accident waiting to happen.
Ordered pie of the day and puff pastry top was square and too small for the the oval dish !!??? ordered mash and got chips .. come on now, as for my chefs steak .. overcooked and how much are you charging ??? well thought out well done
The front of house staff were good and music was ok, but whilst we were eating an argument started in the kitchen which we really didn't wish to hear between a chef and a blonde girl caked in make up which was better entertainment stomping about the pub .. very professional.
The gents toilets are a disgrace, previous reviews called this the COCK UP , we understand why, looked this up TRUST INNS you should be ashamed.
Sorry but won't be returning

The Star, Malden Rushett

Wow what a difference, not in a good way, came here last night and the service was just awful.
Well overpriced mediocre food and scandalous beer prices explains lack of drinkers.
Looks like it has had money spent on it but forgetting the customers is unforgivable.
Tried to express my views but noone in charge was available (says it all ) and staff were uninterested.
Won't be back in a hurry I'm afraid ..

Ye Olde Kings Head, Epsom

Walked up from the awful Kings Arms in East Street and found this gem, just out of the town centre which is part of its appeal.
Gorgeous outside and friendly welcome from the barmaid.
The interior for the most part is simply quality, the way an English pub should look, Monday night pub quiz and you can't beat the traditional meat raffle, love it.
The major downside which is said with a great " SIGH " is the state of the toilets, many a great venue are let down by this and i am sorry to report no exception.
Such a shame .......
Restaurant furniture !? err did Stevie Wonder chose that ? not in keeping with the place, we will be back though and will be eating, watch this space ....
We will definately reccommend and will be back soon, will the food live up to the expectaions ....
Please don't let me down

The Kings Arms, Epsom

This review will encompass our last two visits.
Nice looking Youngs pub from the outside and in East Street and on inspection couldn't fault the inside. Clean, well laid out and attractive for the " new Youngs look ".
The first visit was for a work meal, as a group we preordered, what could go wrong.
Well.... the service was poor, our meals came disjointed and for those who chose the chicken ... never seen anything like it, might have been ok with a hammer and chisel !
When it came to paying the bill we were accused of a number of misdeamours regarding the ordering which was funny in itself .. not as funny though as the " lady " (loose term) providing the final bill who was clearly drunk !!!
Tonight we decided to give this lovely looking pub another shot ...
Greeted by a barman we ordered a couple of drinks and enquired about food to be told we had just missed it, understandable as we were only two of the six customers they had and were told they had been dead since half four.
We set up a bar tab with a debit card anyway as we had no cash.
The barman then disappeared and we had to ask on the whereabouts of our card ? He told us he was keeping it because they have had customers do a runner without paying their bills .. hmmm
We sat, finished our drinks and then left ... but not before enduring the three inexperienced staff watching " ERAGON " on tv at loud volume and texting on their phones, (whilst the other gent appeared to stocktake) and then being charged 50p yes 50p for 2 drinks because we hadn't spent over 10.00 in the pub.
We are willing to give any pub a try but certainly won't be back in a hurry to this car crash, this will also be a letter to HO, YOUNGS you must do better this is poor, very poor sort it out.
