The Slaughtered Lamb, Clerkenwell

Good choice of beers and a couple of real ales. Can get busy and there are always lots of tables reserved.

Ye Old Red Cow, Smithfield

Very good choice of beers from around the world and a few good real ales. Service was excellent. Only downside was price but i guess they are imported draft beers.

The Windsor Castle Inn, Lye

Amazing selection of ales. A must visit if you are in the area.

25 Sep 2011 22:45

The Crumplehorn Inn, Polperro

Good selection of ales and very friendly staff. Bit touristy but that's what supports the economy in these parts. Could have offered some cider from some of the smaller local producers though.

The Old Mill House Inn, Polperro

Decent selection of ales but cider was a let down. Why do pubs in Cornwall get Weston's when there is so many good local ciders.

21 Aug 2011 19:34

The Ship Inn, Polperro

Had a decent pint of Yellowhammer but pub is not much to write home about. Sky Sports showing if you want footie.

21 Aug 2011 19:30

The Three Pilchards, Polperro

Could be so much better. Comments below show that the emphasis is more on food and not on beer unfortunately, thought this website was about beer!! Ales were the dreaded Doom Bar and Tribute and cider was one of Weston's and not a local.

The Blue Peter, Polperro

Great pub with excellent ales and a cider on hand pump. Friendly staff.

21 Aug 2011 19:13

The Camden Head, Islington

Could be a great pub but the bar staff let it down. Had to wait an age to get served even though not busy, and worst crime of all saw barman topping up someones pint of real ale from the drip tray!!

The Charles Lamb, Angel, Islington

Nice place but could be so much better. This pub attracts Islington's Champagne Socialists, which explains the lack of atmosphere but plenty of posh totty. Beer was good but were serving summer ales in winter.

The Station Inn, Whitby

Great pub with a large choice of ales. Wish i could have spent more time there.

12 Oct 2010 22:51

Crown and Anchor, Brixham

Nice pub with some good ales. Bit of a tourist trap if the sun is out as you end up with lots of elderly people sitting in the few chairs outside drinking coffee. Pubs are for beer if you want coffee go to a cafe.

12 Oct 2010 22:47

The Blue Anchor, Brixham

Nice little boozer. Friendly staff and good beer.

12 Oct 2010 22:44

The Cider Press, Torquay

Not a bad pub. Staff were friendly, beer ok. Shame about the Chavs though!

12 Oct 2010 22:42

The Hole in the Wall, Torquay

Great pub. Only reason worth going out in Torquay for an evening. Many real ales and Weston's Scrumpy. Bar food good too. Bar staff very friendly.

12 Oct 2010 22:40

The Devon Arms, Torquay

Landlord was friendly enough, but i wouldn't call it a hidden gem as it states outside.

12 Oct 2010 22:36

The Mermaid, St Albans

Best pub for real ale in St.Albans. Beer festivals are good too.

10 May 2009 21:36

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

They've done a good job on this place when you consider its predecessor The Shires. Good real ale choice. They even have beer and cider festivals in the outside bar at times. Take a look at the Victorian dining room on your way to the toilets.

10 May 2009 21:32

The Euston Flyer, Euston

Usual Fullers pub. You know what you're getting. Good place to meet and has always had cute barmaids.

10 May 2009 21:27

The Gatehouse, Highgate

Typical Wetherspoons pub. Good real ale selection as usual. Just see if you can order at the bar without having a conversation with a drunk local. Friendly drunks though.

10 May 2009 21:17

The Angel, Highgate

Could be a great pub if it had a few more real ales on. Really good for the trendy wendys of highgate with lots of continental beers. I opted for the Addlestones cider which tasted completely different to everywhere else i've had it (almost watery in taste?). Food was very disappointing, my wife had caesar salad which was left under the heated lamps in the kichen and the burger i had was completely tastless. To round it off the barman brought our cuttlery and handled the eating parts of the knife and fork.

10 May 2009 21:07

The Butcher's Hook and Cleaver, Smithfield

Good pub for drinking but don't eat. Have been twice for food and service and quality was awful. Had to wait nearly an hour for just a sausage baguette. They obviously don't have enough staff to cope with the size of the pub.

6 Mar 2009 16:38

The York, Islington

Good real ale selection, had 4 on and tried the Badger. Can get very crowded as it is a popular meeting place but had no trouble getting served by friendly bar staff.

20 Nov 2008 23:02

The Gate, Smithfield

This place doesn't know whether it wants to be a wine bar or a pub. Adnams was the only ale on, had to ask for every pint served to be topped up. Toilets were flooded and had to walk out holding the wall to avoid slipping on the bar floor. won't be rushing back

20 Nov 2008 22:57

The Shakespeare's Head, Holborn

OK as Wetherspoons go, very large pub with a medium selection of real ales. Visited on an afternoon and had a relaxed atmosphere.

20 Nov 2008 22:52

The Edgar Wallace, Temple

Excellent pub. 8 real ales on, food looked really good too. Staff were very polite and friendly. Will certainly return soon.

20 Nov 2008 22:47

The Old Manor, Potters Bar

Spacious pub looking old on the outside but tastefully modernised on inside. Three real ales to choose from along with the usual lagers.
Was a George Michael lookalike in there when i was there who seemed intent on getting drunk on red wine and touching girls bottoms, very funny.

16 Nov 2008 23:16

The Hare and Hounds, St Albans

Great cosy pub with a good selection of beer and even Aspalls cider on draught. Staff friendly.

6 Nov 2008 21:24

The White Lion, St Albans

Great pub. Great real ale selection to. Massive garden which is excellent in the summer.

6 Nov 2008 21:18

The Iron Duke, Victoria station

Typical station pub. But does what it's there for which is really for anyone wanting a quick drink before getting train. Staff were friendly and offered good service.

2 Nov 2008 14:39

Dust, Clerkenwell

Pretentious wine bar for pretentious people. Bar staff seemed more interested in chatting up anything in a skirt than doing their job.

2 Nov 2008 14:35

The Richmal Crompton, Bromley

Very large modern Lloyds bar. Good selection of real ale on as it was Wetherspoons ale festival. Not much atmosphere and not enough staff which seems par for the course for Wetherspoons.

2 Nov 2008 14:31

The Tulse Hill Tavern, Tulse Hill

Characterless large pub with pool tables and large screen for football. No real ale available at time of visit, but the locals are all lager swilling chavs anyway.

2 Nov 2008 14:28

The Eagle And Child, Stow On The Wold

Small bar with a larger area where the emphasis is on food. Only 1 real ale. Disappointed i went here as there were obviously better pubs in Stow

26 Oct 2008 20:45

The Mermaid, Burford

Good pub with real log fire. About 4 real ales best of which were Witchfinder Porter and Olde Trip. Staff a bit slow though.

26 Oct 2008 20:39

The Inn on the Marsh, Moreton in Marsh

Good traditional pub with large eating area. 4 real ales best of which was the guest Ringwood brewery Huffkin. Friendly staff and if you're lucky the landlord has a go at a few tunes on the guitar. Was well impreesed with his acoustic version of Metallicas Enter Sandman.

26 Oct 2008 20:35

The White Hart Royal Hotel, Moreton-in-marsh

Greene King beer so you know what you're getting with IPA and Abbott. Food is absolutely excellent British pub grub. Pies are second to none with a special every night. Only thing that let it down was a local racist at the bar.

26 Oct 2008 20:30

The Black Bear, Moreton in Marsh

I agree with ppw. Very friendly bar staff. Shame about the Donnington beer. Busiest pub in town in evenings.

26 Oct 2008 20:24

Redesdale Arms, Moreton-In-Marsh

Looks like this place has been modernised into an expensive gastro pub recently, has no character. Only 2 real ales available and full of pretentious rich local kids

26 Oct 2008 20:22

Bell Inn, Moreton in Marsh

Six real ales, pick of the bunch Sharp's Doom Bar. Went there on a Thursday and Friday and was quiet on both nights. Got the impression it can be a bit of a students bar, staff very helpful and friendly.

26 Oct 2008 20:17

The Harpenden Arms, Harpenden

Fullers pub so you know what you're getting on the beer front. Gets crowded at weekends, but bar staff are always friendly and know what they're doing.

19 Oct 2008 23:00

The Robin Hood, St Albans

Good local boozer. Quiet on saturday lunchtimes but livens up in the evening with live music. Good real ales, usually 3 to choose from. Also has an internet jukebox but can be a bit annoying when some girl keeps putting Girls Aloud on it.

19 Oct 2008 22:45

The Sutton Arms, Clerkenwell

Best pub in the area. Mick the landlord is the star of the show. Good selection of beer and 3 casque ales. Beware of the mad German bloke who's always in there.

19 Oct 2008 22:38

Spaniards Inn, Hampstead Heath

Have been here mid-week in the summer and was excellent to sit outside and food was great. Good selection of beer. Recently went on a saturday night for a meal and lucky enough to get a table inside. Bar staff were scruffy, didn't have a clue on how to run the bar and not enough of them to cope with demand, waited for 25 minutes to get served for drinks by which time our meals had sat on the table for 10 minutes and got cold. Drink selection is still good when you eventually get it.
