The Godolphin Arms, Marazion

Newly-opened pub/restaurant is outstanding. I couldn't fault it. The service is very good, it's got some good beers and wines, the setting is amazing given a bit of sunshine, and the food is properly nice. It caters for everyone, if you want food or just a drink. We came back twice while on holiday and I really hope it doesn't go downhill from here, because you couldn't ask for any more.

The Merry Harriers, Hambledon

Good beer, mediocre food, poor service and very overpriced. Given the setting and the loyalty of their punters, you just wish they'd take it up a notch or knock their prices down into the sensible bracket.

Lulworth Cove Inn, West Lulworth

The sort of place that caters for tourists, knows its the only pub in the vicinity and and assumes that you probably won't be coming back soon anyway. Food is mediocre - a bit of a lottery as to whether it arrives and is cooked properly. I found the service to be acceptable bordering on resentful.

The Weld Arms, East Lulworth

Excellent place, really good food. We had two good meals there. The place was packed full by history reenactors at the weekend but they still managed to serve us efficiently some of the best food and beer around.

The Anchor Inn, Godalming

Been into One 10 - or is it 1 Ten? - a few times now. Beer is great. Seems to have a bit of a mixed target market. It has an ambitious menu, but didn't really deliver. We'd rather pay a little extra and get freshly made food rather than defrosted mush. But I hope they sort they get things off the ground and decide what they want to be - it's already becoming a great alternative to the stuffiness of Inn On A Lake.

The Parrot Inn, Shalford

Awful food at high prices. They could do with checking the use-by date on the meat and, if they make it into burgers, try and make enough so they don't have to tear a chunk off mine to put into someone else's stale bap.

The Eldon House, Bristol

Has been taken over, minus the charm. I asked if they still did live music on a Sunday night. "Nah, I stopped that when I took it over," he said, like it was something depraved that he'd dutifully stamped out.

The Old Fish Market, Bristol

The Fish Market is the king of lunchtime pubs with friendly staff, sparklingly clean surfaces and a nice atmosphere.

The Old Duke, Bristol

Good beer and music. In dire need of a damn good scrub. Occasionally go there for lunch only to find the chef hasn't got up yet.
