Ye Olde Chequers Inn, Tonbridge

you know how all pubs really stink after the smoking ban? well this one absolutely reeked of chip fat even when there was the saving grace of secondary smoke to mask it. it must be like walking into a vat of lard nowadays.

The Swan Hotel, Tunbridge Wells

lawks! run away!

Sedge Lynn, Chorlton Cum Hardy

i went here the other other day and was greeted by a man with no neck sitting on the table outside who was shouting racist abuse at passing asian women. so that was nice. inside, it took ages to get served and was full of freaks.

in short, then, it's pretty much like every other weatherspoons.

The Horse and Jockey, Chorlton cum Hardy

this pub rocks. the location is lovely, the building's nice and quaint, the beer's cheap and the clientelle are alright.

what's not to like?

The Imperial, Soho

a bloody good little pub, given there must have been a huge tempation to tart it up for the tourists. the irish fellow behind the bar is one of the friendliest blokes in london and they also sell a nice pint of numbers.

The Admiral Duncan, Soho

the range of guest ales is something of a disappointment, although the clientelle seem very friendly. it's a real man's pub, isn't it?

The Bedford, Tunbridge Wells

haha. that's right, 'bradwan'. why can't people use their real names?

i have very little to say about this place other than the fact the toilets are very dark.

The Old West Station, Tunbridge Wells

it's got a beefeater in it, innit. how can this place be anything other than 1000% amazing?

The Sound Garden / Biscuit Factory, Tunbridge Wells

this placed used to do amazing free comedy on a thursday night.

they don't any more. it's sad, really.

Cassidys, Tunbridge Wells

good: they show sport, which is like rocking horse do-dah for a pub in tunbridge wells.

bad: the beer tastes funny.

conclusion: a mixed bag, really.

The Barn, Tunbridge Wells

there's something not quite right about this place. i can't put my finger on it, but it's in the air.

The Station House, Tonbridge

a very strange pub - it's like being in a david lynch film. i don't know if this is a good or a bad thing.

The Humphrey Bean, Tonbridge

if you like going to pubs and you like smoking (and if you don't then you're a great big girl) then this is the pub for you. it's got a very nice outside area with attractive views of the river and the castle, making it a very pleasant place to drink away a few hours on a rain-ceased summer evening.

inside it's as scummy as every other weatherspoons and the staff will take weeks to serve you, but you can't have everything, can you?

The Guinea Butt, Tunbridge Wells

it's all a bit 'emo' really, isn't it?

The Robin Hood, Stretford

there's absolutely nothing wrong with it other than the prevalence of people bringing children in, although that's one of the more unwelcome aspects of the smoking ban which is affecting almost all pubs. the food is cheap and the beer's fine.

in any case, where else in stretford is there to go?

The Opera House, Tunbridge Wells

Possibly the worst pub on god's green earth. If ever there was a place to shatter the notion that Tunbridge Wells is a charming town where gentlemen in tweed suits roam parks with butterfly nets and where ladies in formal dresses and sun hats take turns along the pantiles then it's this pub.

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

the genius of this place is that it's the only pub in central london where you're pretty much guaranteed a seat for you and your mates, even on a friday evening after payday.

people are put off by the exterior, i guess, but it's absolutely fine inside.

The Grove Tavern, Tunbridge Wells

an amazing pub. it makes you feel all is right with the world.

The Compasses, Tunbridge Wells

This is Keane's favourite pub in the world. Other than that, it's really nice.

It used to have the best pub quiz in the UK (not been for a few years, mind). And who cares about what the food's like? Pubs are for drinking beer in, not eating.
