The Booth Hall, Hereford

Absolute shite - The beer was cloudier than the mist over the Black mountains in November and the Bar maid said she thought it 'should be that way' - three bogs, all out of commission and the advce from the bar staff was "go to Manhattans and use theirs".

29 Nov 2009 13:09

The Herdsman, Hereford

Been away for five years during which this pub has had a name change - unfortunately that is all that has changed. the decor is 1960s - the clientelle are as described below and all in all the pub is shite - a close second to the Long Bar in the shit pub scale!!

29 Nov 2009 13:01

Cross Keys Inn, Withington

Cracking pub - a real hidden gem. Wye Valley and Three Tuns beer, Hereford cider (though it is fizzy) open fire and no fripperies. though you could spend hours in here people watching.
About the only criticism would be one of an 'outsider' - as with all hereford pubs, spontaneous conversation is anathema.
10/10 for the pub itself!!

29 Nov 2009 12:57

The Imperial, Hereford

Been away for five years and revisiting Hfd pubs. The Imperial still hasn't changed. Siulless, crap pub full of middle aged circuit drinkers. In answer to people comments on my opinions. they are mine, and are honest. I don;t slag off every pub and am looking for improvements. For instance. the Exchange has improved 100% in the time I have been away, The Lich has alos,, The barrels is one of the best pubs in the country and even Manhattans is almost good, while The Imp, despite a facelift is still exactly the same - crap.

24 Nov 2009 10:49

The Lichfield Vaults, Hereford

Just returned to Hfd after 5 years away and glad to say the Lich has returned to its glory days. Friendly customers and a crcking landlord in Andy whi used to keep the Pig & Drum in worcester. Rugby on telly and cracking beer. this pub runs a close second to the Barrels for best pub in town, and would come high in any town.

24 Nov 2009 10:45

J.D's, Hereford

Really, really shit pub. Short measures on the beer and when we went in, early Sat night the average age must have been 38 - cos everybody was either 16 or 60. My missus went back later though and reckons all the oldies had gone (Or probably just gone home for a tug).

24 Nov 2009 10:42

The Exchange, Hereford

Been away for five years and re-visiting all the Hfd pubs I did then. This is one of the few which has improved. Went on a Sat night. this was the only pub that was packed. Boxing on the big screens and a decent pint, as opposed to last time when it was all bottles. All in all a 100% improvement

24 Nov 2009 10:39

The Crown Inn, Woolhope

Just returned to the area after 5 years away and up[dating the reviews. Had a cracking day there recently when the kids helped to make cider in the car park. The beer was excellent and the entire place much friendlier than when we used to come in 5 years ago.

3 Nov 2009 10:43

The Full Pitcher, Ledbury

Just returned to ledbury after 5 years away. Jury still out on the pub. The beer was excellent and the kids loved the animals in the garden. Landlady was really friendly. Have read the earlier complaints and the only thing similar on which we commented was that it was a bit cold inside. Will definitely go again, even if only for the beer

3 Nov 2009 10:40

The Horseshoe Inn, Ledbury

Returned to Ledbury after 5 years away. The Shoe was good before and if anything, the beer is better now. Only little thing I could moan about is the fact that the glass is never full, but that seems to be a Hereford thing as none of the pubs fill a pint.

3 Nov 2009 10:33

The Brewery Inn, Ledbury

Came back to Ledbury after 5 years away and glad to say The Brewery is still as good as ever.

3 Nov 2009 10:30

The Kerry, Hereford

Still crap - On our Friday night out there were about 10 people in till a hen party with an absolutely stunning girl in less clothes than an Ibiza stripper came in! this was the only bright spot of the visit, although the bouncers were friendly enough and told us that since we have been away the entire town has gone down the nick.

3 Nov 2009 10:23

The Litten Tree, Hereford

I reported this pub 5 years ago before we left the city. On our first night out since returning it hadn;t changed much - Still over priced and crap. The clientell used to be arseholes, from our visit it would be hard to say as at 9.30 on a Friday night there were only three people in besides us

3 Nov 2009 10:20

The Kings Fee, Hereford

Been away for five years and Spoons was the second pub of our night out. What can you say? basically its a bit posher than a northern Wetherspoons, with an eclectic clientele in the evening, tending to run a bit older than the Northern towns and less 'pissheads'. As an-ecumenical matter said the beer range was a bit disappointing, plus, unusally for a Spoons, the barmaid seemed to have no idea what she was doing. On the plus side, they had five different ciders, which were served from boxes behind the bar

3 Nov 2009 10:15

The Coachmakers Arms, Hanley

Brilliant pub with cracking beer

24 Aug 2009 11:39

The Offley Arms, Madeley

Eventually it seems that the refurb didn;t work. The pub now has no identity, in my opinion. I now live less than five minutes walk away and avoid it if possible.

24 Aug 2009 11:36

The Prince of Wales, Ledbury

Returned to Ledbury for the first time in five years this weekend. The Prince was good before but is even better now. Well done lads.

24 Aug 2009 11:34

The Barrels, Hereford

Went back to Hereford for the first time in five years this weekend and glad to say the Barrels remains a stunning pub. Not sure about the posh extension out the back though - but the inside remains brilliantly individual and the beer reange not only extensive and great quality, but also excellent quality.

24 Aug 2009 11:30

The Old Brown Jug, Newcastle under Lyme

Last time I went in it was lots of little rooms. Has now been opened out to one big room, but still retains character. no music on the night we went, but, due to being on the edge of town? Busy, but not full of dickeads. Excellent beer!
10/10

27 Feb 2006 10:45

The Ironmarket, Newcastle under Lyme

closed for two weeks for refurbishment. On opening the only difference was that the beer range was even less. now only fizz or guinness available on a Saturday night. Crap pub all round...they haven't even painted the bannisters - just changed the sign. What a waste.

8 Dec 2005 18:08

The Full Moon, Newcastle under Lyme

Rock oriented pub. Nice stuff on the wall!!! good beer and decent music on a Saturday night.

8 Dec 2005 18:04

The Oxford Arms, Newcastle under Lyme

Now this is what you call a rock pub. Went this week to see Limehouse Lizzy and was well impressed. Packed to the rafters, nice staff, good beer and a good band. What more could you ask. Definitely won't be the last visit.

20 Nov 2005 21:21

Wheatsheaf Inn, Onneley

Rambling old country pub. Does excellent meals, if a tad expensive. beer range good and quality not bad. Live music at weekends. All in all, not bad. Voted 6

26 Oct 2005 16:46

The Bell Inn, Harborne

KennyD - LOL. I know what you mean! I'm originally from Bloxwich in the Black Country, but had been living in the rural idyll of Ledbury. After that, the return to any big city/town suburb looked shabby!!

24 Oct 2005 23:27

The Swan, Forton

This is simply the poshest pub I have ever been in. Old coaching inn, with restaurant and conservatory. It says on the door that it offers an 'experience' and that goes from the lady playing the piano in a style of 1950s elegance to the gift shop.
Large emphasis on food, but despite this, both the food and the drinks are reasonably priced, and of excellent quality.

17 Oct 2005 14:48

The Crown, Aston

Nice two room pub on the A34. Decent ale and what look ed good meals with big servings

14 Oct 2005 17:15

Red Lion, Stone

Cracking pub. As described above. Excellent ale and a good atmosphere. Voted 10

14 Oct 2005 17:09

The Pheasant Inn, Stone

cracking pub. Seperate rooms, friendly staff (Even to the point of bringing the kids summat to play with) and excelent ale.

14 Oct 2005 17:06

The Rigger, Newcastle under Lyme

Rock pub. the Rigger has just about everything you could want in a rock pub. Live music, discos, pool tables, even real ale and guest beers.

14 Oct 2005 17:05

The Vine, Silverdale

traditional working class boozer. Friendly, with a decent pint of Bass.

Museum, Newcastle under Lyme

Cracking street corner local. Unspoilt by progress as they say. Excellent beer and good company...particularly if you want to talk football!!!

The Greyhound Inn, Penkhull

Lunchtime visit, but quite busy. Cracking 16th century building, cheap, imaginative food and a decent pint.
Will visit again.

The Marquis of Granby, Penkhull

Typical large Victorian street corner pub. Lovely original tiles in the entrance. Lunchtime visit, but the bar staff where friendly and the beer good.

The Beacon Way, Bloxwich

Now been gutted and relaid out. Possibly the only thing to do with the old Nag's which would work, except demolition.
the gaffer seems to have the right idea and is keeping the chavs out in an effort to give it a new lease of life.
the pub is well laid out, the beer decent and it now does food. not as cheap as some in the area, but a million times better than the run down state of the old pub.
New name is the Beacon Way.

The Victory, Hereford

Sarah - I've been thinking about your comments and do believe I was a bit harsh with my first comment. I was telling the truth about the vomit, but accept that it could just have been missed that day.
The first time I went I had a pint of the Radnorshire, thinking it was a guest, only to find that it wasn't, I have since been in quite a few times and haven't seen a guest, but then again I haven't been in for a while.
I think that I overeacted. As you know from my other posts, I think Hereford has some really bad pubs, and in a place like this, at least your dad had the balls to open a micro-brewery, and I always recommend his ales when I see them elsewhere.
Also, the pub has not been 'tarted up' and still has live bands, plus the huge range of ciders, which when I came to Hereford, I expected to find everywhere, only to find that they are as rare as rocking horse shite, almost everyone choosing to drink the ubiquitous Strongbow or GL.
All in all, you should be praised and not slated for keeping the pub 'real'.
So. I apologise and retract my earlier statements. I have been trying to find how to take them off, but can't.

The Victory, Hereford

Yeah, but you would say that wouldn't you.

I agree, they are now doing a genuine guest, but the truth is that the first time I went in someone had genuinely been sick, as I said. I was extremely dissapointed as I had been assured by friends that this was 'the best pub in town'.
I thought the point of this message board was to put our point of view. Well, that is what I am doing.

31 Jul 2005 13:01

The Chase, Upper Colwall

Now taken over by the guy from the Nags in Malvern Link, so the ale range is improved, and the quality still every bit as good. Free newspapers and a pool table in the back. Excellent views over the Malverns.

The Barrels, Hereford

Homer, I have agreed with most of your postings on Hereford pubs. My main gripe with Hereford pubs is the cliqueiness. In five years living in Hereford, this is the only pub where anyone has EVER started a spontaneous conversation at the bar.

30 Jul 2005 10:03

The Severn Arms, Penybont

Lovely building. Inside it's a strange mix. Not quite sure whether its supposed to be a pub or a restaurant. Beer was good, but only one on handpull. If you're passing its worth a visit, but if you've got a choice, I would go a few miles further towards England and try the Radnor arms at New Radnor.

30 Jul 2005 10:00

The Radnor Arms, New Radnor

Cracking little pub in that cosy, home from home way that many Welsh pubs can have. Had a beer festival when I went, and the ale was excellent. Apparently they have these often. I didn't try the food, but the prices seemed very reasonable.

30 Jul 2005 09:58

The Beacon Way, Bloxwich

Now closed.

29 Jul 2005 21:50

The Castle Hotel, Llandeilo

brilliant pub, large multi roomed pub, with an extra bar in the garden. the most helpful landlord and staff I have ever known in a pub, and, when we were there, a beer festival with 30excellently kept ales and a folk singer.
great

13 Jun 2005 21:31

The White Horse Inn, Llandeilo

Cracking little multi room pub. Excellent Evan Evans beer; friendly locals; a telly to watch the Lions on and the cheapest breakfast in the western World - let alone West Wales!!!

13 Jun 2005 21:26

Bush Inn, Silverdale

Gotta agree with everything above. Decent ale, and two guest beers - Old Stockport Bitter and one from Fuller's this weekend when we went in. Friendly locals and helpful bar staff. Absolutely massive meals. the mixed grill needs to be seen to be believed (But it should have an egg on it!! LOL).
Excellent play area for the kids, and friendly locals.

7 Jun 2005 20:11

The Curzon Arms, Twycross

Nice pub with a restaurant, but not losing the pub feel. Pool table and darts.
Decent pint of Pedigree, excellent food at good prices and friendly bar staff.

26 May 2005 22:22

The Offley Arms, Madeley

This pub has now had thousands spent on it in a reasonable refurb. It is, in my opnion, just the right side of a theme pub, with modern decor around a central bar. The pub now includes a no smoking area and more up market restaurant.
At the moment the jury is out on whther this has improved the pub or not, but the beer seems better...possibly due to an increase in pints sold.

6 May 2005 07:35

The Old Oak Inn, Horsley Woodhouse

Cracking pub. Two front rooms, with lots of Leadmill ales on, plus a couple of guests.
When we were there at Easter they were doing toast your own hot cross buns on the coal fire!!!
Brilliant

31 Mar 2005 21:31

Leadmills Brewery Bar, Denby

See also - Stables Bar Denby.
Simply the best!!!

31 Mar 2005 21:29

The Stables Bar, Denby

Simply the best bar in the world. Friendliest bar staff, best beer and a great atmosphere.

31 Mar 2005 21:28

The Crown Hotel, Nantwich

Impressive 17th century hotel in the centre of town.
On walking in, I must admit I expected this place to be overpriced and snobby, but I was pleasantly surprised. The beer prices were'nt much higher than other pubs in the area, and that was for a decent pint. The bar staff and landlord were friendly. The surrounding pleasant. All in all, worth a visit if you're in the town centre.

7 Feb 2005 01:40

The Hopton Arms, Ashperton

This large roadside pub has the old stables coverted to holiday accomodation, chalets in the garden and a large children's play area.
Food prices aren't bad for the area, and the lounge/restaurant has had quite a bit of money spent on it.
The problem is the bar. At first glance it looks OK, then you notice that all of the chairs are threadbare and appear to be the old restaurant chairs. The walls are painted in a warm red colour, but this can't detract from the fact that it always seems cold in here, even with the fire going.
The other problem is the beer. It's not the worst in the world, but no matter which ale they have on, it always appears to have an unpeasant tang.

20 Jan 2005 21:06

The Highlander, Lydney

One of the worst pubs I have been in for years. The boarded up old off licence and wierd entrance where you enter only to find you are in some sort of conservatory without glass should have warned me. If not that, then the sticky, threadbare carpets should have given me a clue, but like a fool I ordered a pint of Speckled Hen. What they gave me looked like a mushroom Cup a Soup. What it tasted like, I have no idea.
Apparently this pub is due for demolition. The sooner the better is all I can say.

19 Jan 2005 18:39

The Windmill, Beverley

Modernised old pub.
No real ale, but otherwise not bad. Has a young-ish crown on Saturday nights, but with a good atmosphere.
B&B at reasonable rates, some in a seperate building. Decent breakfast and very helpful and friendly staff.

23 Dec 2004 17:56

The Wharf, Walsall

Further to my last comment. Went in last month and it seems to have picked up again. Regular live music and cheap food lunchtime. Less dickheads than the circuit pubs at the other end of town. Beer well kept and staff friendly.

18 Dec 2004 09:29

Varsity, Walsall

One of the friendlier circuit pubs in town. Was the old post office and is huge. This can lead to a certain lack of atmosphere when its' not absolutely crammed.

18 Dec 2004 09:27

Old Court House, Walsall

Waste of a good building. Crap pub, crap music and overpriced.

18 Dec 2004 09:25

The Queens Head, Beverley

Nice friendly little pub on two levels. This is a long narrow pub with a small bar at front, then down the steps to another small eating area and pool table.
Decent cheap food, good ale and friendly staff.

18 Dec 2004 09:24

Royal Standard Hotel, Beverley

This is a cracking little pub. Stone flagged front bar and a small lounge bar in the rear. Excellent beers and a warm welcome. We go every year for the Xmas fare and Civil War Re-enactment.

18 Dec 2004 09:22

The Stag Inn, Bloxwich

Unfortunately, the pub has been closed after purchase by property speculators. Another good boozer bites the dust.

24 Nov 2004 22:24

The Seven Stars, Ledbury

Re-opened as 'Seven Cafe Bar & Bistro'. Currently no real ale, and a huge coffee machine behind the bar Looks as if its aiming to go 'upmarket' again. I'll reserve judgement till its' been open a few weeks, but surely, in a market town with only 8 pubs, there is room for another decent one??

24 Nov 2004 22:21

The Offley Arms, Madeley

This village pub opposite the Mere, has a basic public bar, small lounge, pool table, darts and a small restaurant.
The beer isn't the best, but the food is passable.
The place does always appear half finished to me, but, according to the posters on the wall, it is about to be refurbished.

24 Nov 2004 22:18

The Albion, Newcastle under Lyme

By rights this place should be the pits.
Late licence, no real ale and a tiny dance floor, but for some reason, this all works. The clientele are friendly, the music when we visited tended towards good 70s and 80s rock and the door staff handled everything fine.
All in all, worth a visit if you don't wanna go home at 11pm.

24 Nov 2004 22:15

The Bull's Head, Newcastle under Lyme

Definitely the best boozer in Castle town centre.
Good beer (Titanic, Speckled Hen when we visited), great music, nice bar staff and friendly clientele, its no wonder this place is always packed.
