The Tottenham, Soho

This place isn't that bad - it's nothing special certainly but decent enough for a quite pint or two while waiting for someone or before heading to the Astoria.

The Salutation, Hammersmith

A nice pub with an impressive garden area which you wouldn't expect from looking at it from the outside. Good service and a big screen for the football too.

The George, Hammersmith

The George really is as bad as the comments suggest - badly set-out, poor service and not much of an atmosphere. It's a close run thing between this place and the Hop Poles as worst pub in Hammersmith.

The Castlebar, West Ealing

This is a very good pub - a lot better than all the pubs down in Ealing Broadway bar The North Star. Decent selection of food and beers, and the San Miguel is great.

The Salt House, St John's Wood

A bit dull this place and the barman who served me seemed quite uninterested. Next time I'm in this area I'll try the Clifton down the road which is by all accounts far better.

The Hobgoblin, Marylebone

Nice little pub which has a bit of charm, not bad at all for a quick few.

The Globe, Baker Street

Nice enough pub depending on when you go. As has been said it's a well known football "lads" pub, and will become even more so once the new Wembley's done on match days there. But otherwise no reason not to go for a drink there if you're in the area.

Britannia, Euston Station

Along with the Fuller's pub in Paddington this is the only half-decent station pub I've ever set foot in, so given the location it's not bad.

The Prince of Wales, Wimbledon

The only use I can think of for this pub is for a quick pint while you're waiting for someone at Wimbledon station. As has been said, even smokers find this place too smoke-ridden for comfort. The beer isn't up to much either I'd say.

Old Orleans, Ealing

I wouldn't class this as a pub but I'd definitely recommend it for a meal - very nice place.

The Shanakee, Ealing

Seems friendly enough when I've been in but not exactly somewhere you'd plan to go to for a session with your mates.

The North Star, Ealing

This is definitely one of the better Ealing Broadway pubs, somewhere you can have a good drink with decent service and a friendly atmosphere, which is more than can be said for a lot of pubs around here.

The Slug and Lettuce, Fulham

Avoid at all costs, this place is bad even as Slug and Lettuce pubs go.

Rutland Arms, Hammersmith

As has been said - this place has a great location, particularly in the summer, but unfortunately fails to capitalise on it. I also experienced poor service from a barmaid who didn't seem to want to serve anyone then took an age to count out the change. Your best bet is to walk down the river towards Chiswick where you'll find far better pubs with equally good riverside locations.

The Red Lion, Barnes

Based on a couple of recent visits I must advise against going to this pub - it seems quite soulless to me. I've only been to it during the week but it doesn't strike me as the kind of pub which will give you a particularly good atmosphere.

The Trout, Hammersmith

Well it's a pub in a Tube station/shopping centre, so what do you expect. On top of this, my pint was terrible, but I'm reliably informed that the Guiness at least is alright.

The Beehive, Brixton

Good for a few pints before a gig at Brixton Academy. Otherwise probably best avoided.

The Tabard, Turnham Green

Nice pub with a friendly atmosphere, definitely the best pub in Chiswick.

The Oxford and Cambridge, Hammersmith

With all due respect, I think the previous comment sums this pub up.

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

One of the better 'train station pubs' I've seen (which isn't saying much), but the best place for a quick drink before getting your train or whilst waiting for someone.

The Drayton Court, West Ealing

An excellent pub and a worthy contender for Pub of the Year - would have got my votes if I had been on when voting was still on-going. Nicely set-out with a good choice of places to sit and a good pint. Also it's out of the way, which makes for a more friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

The William Morris, Hammersmith

I agree with the last comment - used to think this place was pretty terrible but now it's a nice place for a drink with nice decour. Decent size non-smoking section too.

The Bull and Gate, Kentish Town

Good pub to go before a gig, went there before seeing The Libertines at the Forum last December. Couldn't say what it was like otherwise but great atmosphere in there then. Definitely reccomended pre-gig.

The Slug and Lettuce, Fulham

This pub is as bad as you'd expect a chain pub to be. I'm not remotely xenophobic but I don't think any British people actually go in here. Don't bother.

Wetherspoons, Hampstead

I had the flattest pint of my life here and the atmosphere matched it perfectly. Even as Wetherspoons pubs go this is bad.

The George, Belsize Park

I've been to worse pubs but still it's not up to much, I have been there at the weekend and it didn't seem too lively. I went there when it was The Rat And Parrot too and didn't think much of it then and, other than the name change, nothing's really different about it.

7 Dec 2004 11:47

The Belsize, Belsize Park

Seems pretty devoid of atmosphere, and somehow not truly a pub. Not badly presented but overpriced and dull, not really worth a visit i don't think.

7 Dec 2004 11:33

The Hop Poles, Hammersmith

Avoid this pub like the plague, it's terrible, but to be fair to it no worse than most pubs in Hammersmith.
