The Pump House, Brighton

Popped in here for a couple drinks mid-week on an overnighter to my old stomping ground and was very impressed. Nice atmosphere with friendly staff and had a superb Harveys in a handle! Great range of drinks and service and there seemed to be a decent range of food (and some nifty bar snacks) though didn't get a chance to sample. As one post already mentioned - got a window seat and indulged in a little people watching!
Highly recommended!

The Plough Inn, South Ealing

This is my local (used to live literally next door and now round the corner) and its a great pub overall. The re-fit a few years back did the place the world of good and the latest extension and sort out of the beer garden ahve improved it no end. Plenty of comfy seating inside (though the nights when big tables get reserved is a pain) and lots of room outside. Food is very good, though a bit pricey. Sure every pub will have some problems but mostly this place is excellent overall. And the late opening hours are very very useful!

The Townhouse, Ealing

RIP Townhouse. Ok not a classy joint but if you avoided the chaos at weekends then this was a perfectly fine place to meet up in the day. It was a simple drinking pub. Food was pointless (a point that the assisstant manager pointed out to us herself) but the staff were friendly and had enough TVs to watch a game or two. Just a simple no-nonsense boozer that Ealing Broadway now misses. Nothing flash or trendy but sometimes thats what is needed.

High Cross, Leicester

Straight up what you see is what you get pub. Cheap and cheerful. If you're not expecting too much then you'll be happy!

Square, Leicester

Back in the late 90s in Leicester this was one of the new fancy bars opening up, complete with a huge revolving TV in the middle of the bar. It was a huge space, massively popular on weekends and heaving with people dressed up for a night out. Went back years later and its turned into one of the roughest pubs in Leicester city centre. Door staff on during the day because of the amount of trouble. The karoake DJ is a nightmare. Saw him throwing broken CDs across the road towards the other rival pub (over the heads of passing shoppers and children) whilst f***ing this and that over the mic at full volume, loud enough for anyone in the general east midlands area to hear. Pillock. Avoid this like the plague!

The Prince Albert, Notting Hill

We went here on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy even by 6pm, however this really is no excuse for the appalling service you receive in here. The Prince Albert made inefficiency an art form.
Service was very slow with staff wandering around behind the bar in a dream like state, texting, chatting, eating food or simply serving themselves whilst ignoring those 'inconvenient' customers. Just because you've been standing at the bar for close to 15mins, don't expect any of the bar staff to remember that you're next to be served - "no i'm not waiting to get a pint, I just love standing at a crowded bar with a tenner in my hand being routinely ignored whilst occasionally being looked at like something you'd scrape from the bottom of your shoe".
Toilets are really grim and small, not a bad selection of drinks if you can get around to having one. If you want a sober Saturday night come here - you'll only get around to having a couple of beers before kicking out time. There's too many other pubs to even bother given this joke of a place a second chance.
