The Crown Hotel, Standish

Came up from London on a golf weekend and was staying in the hotel around the corner. Looked on here for a place for a pint and some grub and what a wise move that was. Very impressed with the food ! Went in lunch time and had the chicken bacon & leek pie and it was the freshest homemade pie Ive ever had. Guinness was top too.

I was so happy I returned the same evening and a few of us got stuck into the "butchers block" where you choose your cut of steak from the choice of 4 and decided how thick you want it. Have to say it was really really good meat, and we all agreed on that!

HUGE selection of continental bottled beers (mostly Belgian). In fact the list was bigger than that of most restaurants wine list.

Nice relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a pint and a non smoking area for them that wanted it.

10 out of 10 from me.

The Crazy Bear Hotel, Oxford

Cracking place. A really really great pub/bar where new and chic meets old in a collision that works so well and it has a brilliant atmosphere. Great choice of lagers and beers, both bottled and draught. They are reputed to have Champagne on tap although I never saw this. Not the most spacious of bars due to a lot of room being taken up by tables for evening bar meals. They have two restaurants there with a gastro pub type menu in one and a Thai menu in the other. I opted for the former and it was good. They have a good slection of stoggies for post dinner, which are kept perfectly.

If 350 for a night you can afford, stay in the Copper suit.... your missus will love it, I guarantee it.

The Bankers Draft, Eltham

The beer is exactly the same as the punters in there.... smelly and cheap. Nuff said.

Beehive, New Eltham

An absolute dive. Always has been and always will be. My Dad remembers it from the 60's/70's and said it was a dive then. Apparently this place had be shut for referbishment a while ago and I went in there the other Saturday before going to the Greek restaurant over the road. I can honestly say that it looked in the same sh1t tip state it was in before. Full of all dayer pissed up smelly people with nothing better to do on a Saturday day/eve, but then again what did I expect after all, you can't pollish a turd. When two drunken women (one of them was an great dollop of a women) started having a punch up and swearing enough to make Bernard Manning would blush, I thought it time to leave, never to return.

The Smugglers Tavern, Warren Street

I like, I like, I like. It's gone through a bit of a trasnformation of late and it is far removed from it's grotty old self. Nice people behind the jump and welcoming too. It spins my wheels.

The Square Tavern, Euston

What can you say about the Square that hasn't already been said.... Its smokey, has it's fair share of weirdo's (particully those from Caters), it has barstaff who's grasp of the beautiful English language isn't quite Wordsworth BUT it's like a human magnet which draws me in and lets me go only when my belly is full of beer.

The Horse and Groom, Sidcup

I really honestly dont like trashing a place but.

Were it not for the gormless kids running (or should I say ruining) this place and the second, nay, third rate food, this place wouldn't be so bad.

I know most people who are young and work behind a bar don't do it as a career or anything but take SOME pride in what you do! (i.e. the dopey git with the dribbley mouth who spends more time chatting to punters and generally talking garbage, than serving)

Food ranges from average to utter slop.

Good quiz machine though.
