The Crown Hotel, Standish

Came up from London on a golf weekend and was staying in the hotel around the corner. Looked on here for a place for a pint and some grub and what a wise move that was. Very impressed with the food ! Went in lunch time and had the chicken bacon & leek pie and it was the freshest homemade pie Ive ever had. Guinness was top too.

I was so happy I returned the same evening and a few of us got stuck into the "butchers block" where you choose your cut of steak from the choice of 4 and decided how thick you want it. Have to say it was really really good meat, and we all agreed on that!

HUGE selection of continental bottled beers (mostly Belgian). In fact the list was bigger than that of most restaurants wine list.

Nice relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a pint and a non smoking area for them that wanted it.

10 out of 10 from me.

The Crazy Bear Hotel, Oxford

Cracking place. A really really great pub/bar where new and chic meets old in a collision that works so well and it has a brilliant atmosphere. Great choice of lagers and beers, both bottled and draught. They are reputed to have Champagne on tap although I never saw this. Not the most spacious of bars due to a lot of room being taken up by tables for evening bar meals. They have two restaurants there with a gastro pub type menu in one and a Thai menu in the other. I opted for the former and it was good. They have a good slection of stoggies for post dinner, which are kept perfectly.

If 350 for a night you can afford, stay in the Copper suit.... your missus will love it, I guarantee it.

The Bankers Draft, Eltham

The beer is exactly the same as the punters in there.... smelly and cheap. Nuff said.
