The Green Man, Putney Heath

Yes - I can appeicate the previous person posting their comment. I really don't know if I have seen the same person/persons, but it is possible, and I have heard rather flowery laguage at times inside and outside. I drink on my own in the Green Man but have got to know some decent people, but I certainly woudn't want to take say a girlfriend to hear the language indicteted by the previous Emaler.

Can I suggest the management simply show the individual/s a YELLOW CARD. and then take it from there? I think most people are very reasonable - but if they continue to use language that is obcene then the management of the Green Man must decide what the impcat is on othes.

A great pub, but it seems I upset a regular. i still beliebe it is a great pub and long may it continue as a decent public house in an oasis of bars that have no charachter.

I can't add much more than my first Email on this topic. A great local pub with dedicated regulars and new people coming and going, and returning, so keeping a healthy mix of cutomers. Look forward to using the garden in the spring/summer.

Totally disagree with last comment. A fine local with a healthy mix of regulars living near the heath, and new trade due to its location with the bus stop. I have never seen the staff being provocative as suggestted below. Is there perhaps a more specific reason for these comments???

Looking at the choice of alternative 'good' pubs you list Mark I don't think they have ever rated that highly. The Spot is a simple High Street joint only saved by it's central location and the Jolly's used to attrcat 20 year olds from the city - not sure now. The Green Man has to work at it's business and from what I have seen it does a great job - and has a great massive garden adjoining the Manor Fields Mansion Estate. It's even noted on the Bus signs as a destination! I suggest next time just having a chat to the manager if there is an issue.

Walkabout, Putney

It's probably unrealistic to rate these places as one might do a normal pub. As a few posters noted below it does what it says on the tin. Great for people in their 20s on a big Friday/Sat mega session and for those after a quick pint in the week if getting to the Dukes Head /Half moon/Bricklayers is too far a walk without a top-up. But instintively I would use the Whistle and Flute really. As I say, for those in their 20s after a massive weekend session it's ideal I'm sure.

Excellent place. Ideal mix of people - Sky sport and food can happily mix. Too packed on big games days for my own comfort, but others will find that ok so use it after work for a couple and its ideal for that with plenty of seating and you can sit/stand at the bar. Very good manager who deserves credit from his bosses, and the rest of the staff are also very good. Hopeflly it should contine like this.

Turn the clock back a few years to pre-refurb and I - along with many others that frequented this fine destination pub - would be back. Great loss as a community meeting place.

Good placet. Only use after work for a quick pint rather the weekend so don't know about Frid/Sat/Sun and avoid big match events - but I'm sure it's great if you want that atmosphere. Big enough place with beer garden and variety of seating. Bar staff work hard and are always friendly. Some of the more moody bar maids from the Slug might come here and be trained/observe.

Now reopened but have not been in yet so my comment below is now historical and doesn't apply to the reopened version.

Very good place - new managers are excellent. Ideal for a couple of beers after getting off the bus opposite. Massive garden and useful upper deck area at the back. When they refurbed it they didn't spoil the soul/spirit of the place as Youngs did with the Dukes Head that was formerly an excellent pub catering from everyone from local tradesmen to QCs who could happily mix together.

Utter dump.

Going downhill it seems - assume as a result of the economic downturn. Shame as used to be good a few years ago after opening. Green Man has also taken quite a few customers as it has really improved in comparison.

The Morpeth Arms, Pimlico

I agree with many of the comments below. I assume the manager is passing time until she gets a career she really wants - utterly incencere type - no wonder there is a big staff turnover. Only thing keeping it going is proximity to the Tate and lack of other places.

This is now really bad. A few years ago it was popular. Assume due for conversion to flats or something. Shame.

Yes I agree re the short female manager or assistant manager - whatever their title. No idea about customers. Should be a prison warden from what I have seen. Get another job women before your bossess force you to do so.

Re the commenst below. It is true that about 7 years ago the pub had lost it's way. But before that time it was indeed a real local pub and was far more busy that it is now - at all hours on every day of the week. This was certainly true in the early to late 1990s when I used it and before it went downhill for a time prior to the current refurb a few years ago.

Chav posh hole.

Great place - even post re-furb. Well done.

I am not sure I agree really with the last comments - seems desparate speak to keep face. And I notice they were posted rather swiftly after my CAMRA notes. Hmmmm.

Generally good but suffers when it is busy at the weekend. The new revamped Youngs Green Man down the road will add a new degree of competition. Could do more to liven up the dining area to the left by adding a conservatory or doors to the garden. Good to see the toliets have been fixed.

The Angel, Roehampton

Potentially good but as two reviews earlier pointed out - rough joint. Probably ok in the day when not many people are there.

Yes service is terrible - mainly from moody barmaids.

Yes, another rip-off place and with a tax increase on the way even more costly.

Good the staff and some of the regulars did something for an old regular that passed away with little close family - see last week's local free Gaurdian paper. I did not know him personally although have seen him in there. Would not happen elsewhere in Putney, other than perhaps the Half Moon which I understand retains a strong locals following.

Found this by chance, viewing a property for sale near by. Seemed a smashing place - real pub.

One of the better of Youngs recent refurbs in the area.

The Railway, Putney

This is a great place. Food and beer are spot on and plenty of guest ales. Why pay 3.60 for Guinnes in Youngs and other dumps when you can get it for 2.35?

Louhannah Bar and Restaurant, Putney

Don't bother wasting your cash in this place. Went there last Thursday - never again. Try the Whistle and Flute instead.
