The Marble Arch, Manchester

My wife and I have been up to Manchester the last three summers and I have yet to find a pub better than this one. Sensible prices, great local atmosphere and delicious food. Perhaps the best pub in Britain?!

The Knott Bar, Deansgate

Popped into this rather trendy place last Friday lunchtime after receiving a tip from a local. A few fantastic real ales and the food looked delicious ( we had already eaten ). Not big, so is probably packed in the evenings. The Marble Arch on the other side of town is still my favourite pub in Manchester!

The Boot, St Pancras

No real ales, but sensible prices and we took our children for a meal without burning big holes in our pockets. Friendly staff, spacious place in quiet street.

The Star Inn, Talybont on Usk

I worked in this pub nearly 20 years ago. It was great then, and is still great! Wonderful selection of ales from all over the country, most from small breweries. Friendly staff, and a great beer garden at the rear.

The Marble Arch, Manchester

I have not found a better pub than this in any city centre. Excellent ales and wonderful ( though not cheap ) food. I look forward to my next trip to Manchester!

The Castle Inn, St Ives

We recently spent a week in St. Ives. The Castle has by far the best selection of real ales, all of which were in fantastic condition. I cannot remember the names, but some were from Cornwall. I think my father and I tried six different ones, perhaps seven, possibly eight..... forget the famous "Sloop" if it's interesting ales that you want!
