A Nicholsons pub - a lot of agency staff; some bald and Polish. Nothing special.

The sign says - locks changed. Enquiries to Admiral Taverns....
Awful place recently. But then Andy Goff and Mikey spend a lot of time in Soho and Brighton !!
Maybe the place might have survived with more interest.

Laugh says 'I wish I could turn away 60 rounds' - then complains that the money was in the till first! 'Gentlemen' please avoid Newdigate (even on your way to Benidorm with your wives, via Gatwick!) - and google this pub's status/awards/charity functions etc. Did you notice the little animal farm at the back of the pub car park - or were you and your ladies in a charabang, again?

This boarded up building is the worst eyesore between Dorking and Guildford - on the A25.

Open for rugby (World Cup - England y Argentina, in New Zealand) and breakfast on Saturday morning; I know of no other pub doing this, in the area. Well done!

Sadly, the excellent Irish manageress has moved on - and she'll be difficult to replace. Will the new management have the ability/will to generate business over the coming slow winter months? Time will tell...

After about 30 negative posts in the past 18 months, the last poster (who joined the site today and visited the pub once in five years) corrects and admonishes regular customers who criticise this awful pub 'sitting at your computers' - even The Sun provides WiFi!. Is this, I wonder, the management response !?

Soon to be a Wetherspoon called The Ashley Wilkes after the part played by the actor Leslie Howard (a Westcott resident) in the 1939 movie Gone with the Wind.

Now called The Box Tree, after a major refurb. Might be the best pub in East Surrey - everything excellent; food, beer and service. Olympic cycle racing nearby, next year. 10/10

Not 'the worst pub in Surrey anymore'
Closed and boarded up - not before time!

The Edmund Tylney, Leatherhead
fine yokel - thanks for telling us that this pub is not a posh west end hotel (all of which you have frequented!) its just an average spoon and btw, the Savoy don't serve pints anymore; its now owned by wealthy eastern gentlemen whom I'm sure you've met....

Hygiene (like tempest) was high on my priorities when I filled out the somewhat vague questionaire which I handed to a barmaid who didn't seem to know anything about it.
Other points made were - the personality bypasses of staff , even bearing in mind the clinical JDW approach. The utter tiredness of the place; nobody seems to care.
The nearest JDW's are in Horley and Leatherhead - maybe a sign that this part of Surrey is not their heartland; fine! Both these pubs are miles away (but far ahead) under every heading; perhaps a sign that the area manager - and managers - need some analysis and/or replacing.

A below average JDW with indifferent staff. Maybe with two nearby pubs completing major refurbishments, an effort might be forthcoming - little effort is currently evident with seemingly badly trained staff as the norm.

Not much of a pub - which will have to work a lot harder to survive, now that the nite-club opposite has permanently closed. With major refurbishments almost finished at the nearby Dog and Duck and the Home Cottage, money will have to be spent although the main problems are the bored/inept staff and the lack of hygiene.

Opening this Friday, 8th July.
Looks mighty fine from the outside...
5 Jul 2011 12:02
This pub seems closed most of the time now - and open at weekends, although the hours are somewhat unclear.
It might be a good idea if the notices outside gave the opening hours instead of talking about 'ongoing maintenance'.
21 Jun 2011 11:03
The building work is shaping up well - see the pub's new website. The HC will be the best in Redhill; but, that would not be difficult...
20 Jun 2011 14:09
Good High Street pub with fine food and beer. Friendly staff and locals.
13 Jun 2011 13:37
There were no 'origins' for Darwin who lived only 12 miles from the Half. Keep to the propaganda/ads slerpy; at least, its slightly more accurate - sometimes....
26 May 2011 07:55
Yet another rave/fantastic 'review' from the slerpy! GBG inclusion means little - nor does a mention in the local advertiser; however, slerpy will continue to sing the mediocre Half's praises, for some reason! 100 good reviews by Xmas?
21 Feb 2011 21:54
About three dozen posiive posts now from slerpy, in as many months. Bias - yes; but sadly for a very average outlet with mediocre beer. Slerpy, please retire.
21 Feb 2011 11:38
Was a good old pub - but seemingly has newish management. Went in on Sunday and was served very mediocre beer by a middle-aged barmaid who would have preferred to be elsewhere.
25 Jan 2011 12:17
Because its Reigate's biggest pub, it does well at weekends. The rest of the time, its empty with low quality staff and beer. Handy place to meet, before moving on.

The Eighteenth Amendment, Reigate
This 'pub' does not exist - and never has. It seems to bear the same postcode as the Bulls Head on High Street, Reigate; the latter pub has just re-opened after a few weeks closure.
22 Mar 2010 11:22
We (locals) were there when 'trainman' arrived at the end of December. His tale is somewhat embelished! Rudeness did not help his (or his dogs') case.
Back to the pub; its a fine place. Good hospitality, beer and food. The Hidden beers are magic - and the pub is currently gearing up for another busy spring/summer.

Well done to wolfdog for enticing arctral to show his true foulmouthed colours ! With regulars like this, the GM might be best avoided at the moment.
BTW arctral, wolfdog did not say you have commented 'over a dozen times.' I believe I type for many when I say - 'I hope you won't....'
This hope is held as you admit that the others (posters) 'should probably reduce their input.' No doubt your fellow posters are grateful for your advice which you might consider taking yourself.

The Venture Inn, Reigate
I do not understand the last post - but this pub no longer has a public bar; this has now been incorporated into the lounge and the end product looks very good. Food (Thai is gone) is served in the old public bar space where sport continues to be shown on TVs.
The new food menu, and drink quality, is very good. Probably now the best pub in Reigate with high quality fixtures and fittings - though located away from the town centre, opposite the old bus garage. One of only two pubs in the locality with Sky/BT sports.
