Wine Lodge, Fenchurch Street

A real treasure in the City. Great food, good drink, sensible noise levels and above all, great value for money.

Three cheers to the landlord.......Hurrah!

The Dog and Duck, Winchmore Hill

Went there to watch the recent Arsenal vs Spurs game. Great atmosphere and banter, without a sniff of trouble. At half time, the Landlord handed around 4 large platters of sandwiches which were eagerly hoovered up.

Bar Staff are brilliant and serve upto 4 people at a time. Even when busy, you don't have to wait for ages to get a drink.

All in all, this pub is a real pleasure and run the way all pubs should be, with pride and passion. Thank you very much for a most enjoyable afternoon, even if Spurs did get hammered! Brilliant stuff, keep it up.

The Salisbury Arms, Winchmore Hill

A truly amazing transformation! New owners, new beers (15+ belgian draughts), great Sunday Lunch Menu (8.90 for a roast!) Food served all day (Noon till 22:00), Non Smoking Area, chatty/attractive bar maids. Lots of good looking young ladies too.

I thought I was dreaming, but no, it is true. Thoroughly recommended.

The Antwerp Arms, Tottenham

Brilliant, proper pub.

No frills, no gimics. Ideal as a meeting point before and after a Spurs game.

Pride and Guinness are note worthy, as are the fresh rolls/sandwiches on matchdays.

Definitely worth a short trip.

The Dog and Duck, Winchmore Hill

Bloody awesome, just don't let on to too many other folk!

A proper pub, the way it should be. Only downside is it is dead easy to get too comfortbale and waste a weekend there.

Wish more pubs were like this!!!!!

The Woodman, Southgate

Excellent Pub, Brilliant Food (Enormous portions of quality home cooked food!, 11.95 for three proper courses), above average wine list, which isn't a rip off.

The best pub in the area by far. Non smoking back bar is a god send, as is the small outdoor area for kids.

Book early for Sunday lunches and special occasions.

Thoroughly recommended.

The Queens Head, Winchmore Hill

Really could be a very good boozer, if the landlord spent less time in the Kings Head.

GOOD POINTS: Food is excellent, lunches a speciality. Has the usual beeers, and a very nice secluded beer garden, ideal for the summer. Great Whiskey selection too. Wine list is also good and not over priced.

BAD POINTS: Low ceilings, derelict toilets (these are the worst and coldest and windiest (broken glass)ever. Furniture must have come from a second hand/Oxfam shop. (If it didn't it sure looks like it). Bar staff continually changing so no continuity in recognising locals/seasoned drinkers. Majority of drinkers come from Edmonton, Waltham Cross, Freezywater or even Palmers Green.

Overall not too bad a place if you come out the station and want a cheeky "livener". Second to the Kings Head in N21, as a decent boozer.

The Salisbury Arms, Winchmore Hill

This was once a great pub. It is now owned by Ember Inns. Do I need to say more. Expensive drinks, plastic/microwave reheated food, below average bar staff, high turnover of landlord/landlady management.

It has the same look and feel of any other Ember Inn in the UK.

Avoid unless you are gasping or busting for a pee!

The Kings Head, Winchmore Hill

I like the Kings Head!

It is true that the alcohol is priced more expensively than the West End, but this is the fault of Geronimo Inns, the pub chains management and not the resident landlady/staff. I can also concur with the previous posting and verify the beer does taste the way it should (Stella) and maybe if more people drank Guinness, it would definitely be more rich and creamy.

As for the staff, they genuinely do or try to do a good job on the whole. There are periods of slack, and then periods of complete mayhem, but they do cope.

The food is good, though it does seem to have got more expensive recently, and I believe that to be mostly due to Head Office at Geronimo Inns insisting on using particular suppliers, to get the biggest group discount.

Overall the pub is worth a visit. Children running riot are a health hazard on Sundays, but if you choose your timing, the Kings has a pleasant ambience and also a warm welcome. PS It is especially good at Six Nations Time! Don't support Wales!!!!!
