The Moon and Spoon, Slough

I hadn't been in this pub for a while but it has certainly improved as the dodgy clientele are no more, the staff are excellent and the usual good beer selection. Now that I am back in Slough, I might make this my local.

The Rose, Maidenhead

Seemed ok but too pricey.

The Bear, Maidenhead

A good JDW pub. Good range of beers and food is excellent. Good , helpful staff as well

Greyhound, Maidenhead

Not bad for a Wetherspoons. Real ale is good and well kept. Bar staff were good but could do with making it look that they wanted to be there. Clientele not bad except for a couple of loud mouthed gobshites

The Crown, Egham

Popped in here before going to parents evening at college next door. Service was good and I had a couple of excellent pints of the Bombardier. Good atmosphere from a mixed bag of clientele. Would return.

The Moon and Spoon, Slough

Not a bad pub although there are a few local characters who might put some people off. Bar staff has improved greatly since I first went in there. The beer is well kept and being Wetherspoons reasonably priced.

The Cunning Man, Reading

One of the best pub/restaurants I have been to only be spoilt by a couple of items which were off the menu including the cheesecake which would have finished the meal off nicely. Seems to be a good range of beers.Staff, especially the Aussie who served us, was pleasant and cheerful but had to keep apologising for the items off the menu. Otherwise the pub would have got a higher rating.

The Sussex Arms, Paddington

If anyone thinks this is a good pub then the Paterson Wing in St Marys Hospital is just up the road. The bar staff don't seem interested and if it says London Pride on the pump then that's what you should get. I have on previous occasions tried the lagers but I have had better. AVOID.

The Western Arms, Kensal Town

Average local boozer. Beer was reasonable. Very nice bar staff.

The White Swan, Islington

One of the better wetherspoons. Beer was reasonable and the toilets clean. Looking at the food people got it seemed reasonable. Some nice clientele although some of the blokes can be a bit yobbish especially when it comes to winding up the foreign bar staff. Would visit again but not on a football day.

The Duke of York, Kings Cross station

Ok for a quick pint but the toilets are crap and the staff could at least look interested.

The Victoria, Bayswater

Although I posted a review criticising this pub before on my recent visit the service has improved quite significantly. The food doesn't seem too bad and the beer is well kept although can be a bit expensive.Hopefully I won't have to complain again.

The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

As there is a shortage of pubs with dartboards in Paddington I visited this pub to see what it was like. Seems friendly enough and the free peanuts dotted around the pub is a nice touch. Maybe could do with a wider range of beers although the Greene King IPA was ok for the price. Dart throw not bad. Will visit again.

The Kings Head, Chingford

I previously posted a review having a moan about the charm of the bar staff. On my latest visit I was pleasantly surprised. The bar staff couldn't have been nicer. Beer and surroundings still excellent.Keep up the good work!!!

The Wishing Well, Chingford

Nice small friendly pub where the beer is well kept. The darts throw is also good. The only downside was a wino whose main aim was to annoy everyone in the pub. He was dealt with in a pleasant and efficient manner by the landlord with a bit of back up from some regulars. Will certainly visit this establishment again.

The Sawyers Arms, Paddington

Beer is well kept especially the Bombardier and the Broadside but the service is crap. Also some of the customers think they are so high and mighty that they should be served immediately.Either walk to the Victoria or the Royal Exchange which are the best pubs in Paddington or jump on the tube and go elsewhere.

The Isambard, Paddington

Good place for a pint while waiting for a train. Friendly staff and the beer is well kept. Better use of space than the Boots that used to be there.

The Townhouse, Ealing

This pub is ok for a quick pint. Very average Guinness and when it gets busy I think they are only interested in serving youngsters who can't hold their drink.

The Shanakee, Ealing

This has to be the best pint of Guinness in London and not overpriced at 2.60. Nice and quiet place to sit and read the paper or watch the racing on tv. Although I was on the Guinness the other beers seem to be well kept. Great bar service.

The Royal Exchange, Paddington

Not the same since TC left but the new people are making an effort. Beer not bad but what makes this pub is Kathy on the food. Still a proper pub with quite a few local characters.

12 Sep 2006 13:55

The Sir Alexander Fleming, Paddington

Allegedly been a change of ownwership. The beer is now crap and the clientele are not much better. Close it down.

12 Sep 2006 13:51

The Isambard, Paddington

This is a better use for the old Boots store. Although there is a limited range of beers they do try to have at least one guest beer on. Staff are very friendly and responsive.Good place to be while waiting for a train or as a meeting point but maybe not for a session. Still worth a try.

The Swan, Bayswater

Been to this pub before and returned with trepidation as on previous visits the beer was crap. Was pleasantly surprised as the beer was good and the service was very good. The only downside could be the tourists and delegates attending conferences at the Royal Lancaster Hotel

The Victoria, Bayswater

This pub seems to go between a barman who tries too hard and a pleasant young barmaid (think she's Italian)who always has a smile and pulls a good pint. The main problem this pub has is placing great store in the people who have a coke and chip butty and insist in paying by credit card. Maybe we should go back to what a pub should be for - drinking!!!!

The Kings Head, Chingford

Been in this pub twice and found the beer and surroundings to be excellent. What lets this establishment down is the staff who need to go back to charm school.

31 Mar 2006 22:05

Rockys, Buckhurst Hill

Although the reviews didn't seem great I was pleasantly surprised. Cafe bars don't usually do it for me but the beer was good and the barmaid was very pleasant. I tried this pub at lunchtime but can imagine it being full of youngsters in the evening trying to impress in the imitable 'Essex' style!!
