The White Hart, Moreton

What a difference! The pub is still stylish and smart and clean but is no longer a yuppy and unsociable waste of time! Very nice food and friendly staff and customers. Beer is well kept too. Not cheap, but good value. I hadn't been here for a couple of years but I'll now be back soon.

The Crown, Lee

Visited lunchtime today; Youngs Special was very well kept and tasty. We only had sandwiches and a bowl of chips foodwise but they were fine! Main menu looked slightly pricey but I'd definitely return here. Nice big basic boozer!

Fleur Dellys, Widdington

Lunchtime yesterday; despite only 2 of us there for the first hour or so the landlady was very friendly and attentive, a very nice welcome. The beer (DoomBar) was excellent and there were 4 to choose from....and the food was also very good quality. A bit 'out of the way' but well worth the trip! Recommended.
It's The Fleur De Lys!

The Castle Inn, West Lulworth

Just returned from a two night stay! Good range of beers which are ALWAYS well kept and the staff are some of the best you'll ever meet. One or two of the younger staff are not so good but even they're ok. The landlady is also very friendly and helful.
Very nice terraced garden at the rear too.The food is good and the portions generous so the only downside for anyone is that it is VERY dog-friendly, which is great for me but might not suit everybody... Recommended!
[The only problem for me is that the beds are rock-hard, but that only matters if you're staying there].

The Orange Tree, Havering Atte Bower

This pub has had a lot of different owner/managers for the last couple of years BUT it is now a great pub. The landlady is a gem....friendly and welcoming and the food and beer are well kept and reasonable. Give it a go! It was going downhill fast but is now well worth a look!

The Old Dog, Herongate

Sunday lunches are superb; although not especially cheap but very good quality; and a good choice of well-kept beers too. Recommended....

The Old Dog, Herongate

Excellent pub! Well kept beer (Abbots) and very tasty and good quality bar food.
Also, the staff were friendly; and helpfull when my motorbike broke down(!). Nice location too....my first visit but I'll definitely be back soon.

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Vastly over-rated (just my opinion obviously)....more for posers and wannabees than pub fans. Not much atmosphere and the beer was nothing special. Not for me....the Elephants Head in the High Street is more fun.

The Worlds End, Camden

Quite busy and popular and an OK place to meet and have a couple of beers; very expensive though (why is Camden more expensive than Soho and the West End)? Not much of a choice of ales...

The Oxford Arms, Camden

Ok if all you want is to watch the TVs and football. Soulless and not worth going if you don't want to join in with the football fever. I don't! Go opposite to the Elephants Head if you want a 'proper' pub..

The Elephants Head, Camden

First time in ages I've been back to Camden...this is by far the best pub there!
Decent beer (although not a great choice of ales), good music, plenty of different characters in there and a good atmosphere. Good bar staff too..especially the girls!

The White Hart, Waterloo

Very buzzy atmosphere; well kept beer...also .offered a taster of an unfamiliar beer too! Good pub in a central location for The Old Vic and local attractions.

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Excellent city boozer. Very interesting interior and a lively atmosphere. Well kept pints of Sam Smiths beers too! Very cheap for a central London pub.

The White Hart, Blythburgh

Recently stayed for 2 nights with my wife and dogs. The beer was very well kept, the food was very tasty and reasonably priced and staff very friendly.
Great location for a short stay or a passing visit; there's a very nice river walk from the car park behind the pub to Walberswick.
They've now got a pool table too; although there isn't really enough room to play easily!

The Bell, Horndon-on-the-Hill

Excellent! I was expecting to be underwhelmed because I'd heard so many glowing reports but they were justified. Very comfortable, good staff and the food and drinks were very well kept and tasty. Not cheap but good value considering the quality!

9 Sep 2010 23:06

The Two Brewers, Chigwell

Very disappointing! 'Gourmet Burger' was in a soft uninspiring bun and had a weird sage taste and the beers weren't particularly good either! Staff not particularly great; they seemed more interested in their own internal conversations than responding to the customers.

The Square and Compass, Worth Matravers

Vastly overated! Good location but the owners make no effort at all (at least on my one visit). The place was packed and seemingly popular but the beer was average; there is virtually no choice of food (and the pasty wasn't very good).
Similar'quirky' pubs like the 'Low House' in Laxfield in Suffolk are the real thing...this place is just lazy!
I've wanted to go here for years...what a disappointment!

2 Jul 2010 22:48

The Sailors Return, East Chaldon

New owners at the pub but it's still a cracking place; well worth a visit.
Nice range of beers; well kept. Nice choice of food; very tasty and reasonable.
One of my favourites(not just in Dorset)!
The staff are always really friendly too.

The Ramblers Rest, Chipstead

I don't know what the last comments are on about....visited for lunch today and the food, service and atmosphere were very good. The 3 beers on tap were also well kept...Timothy Taylor, Harveys and London Pride . I had 4 pints : 2 Tim Taylors, 1 Harveys and a Guiness....all well kept and poured. I'll definitely return when I'm in the area again!

22 Mar 2010 17:54

Royal Oak, Fritham

As usual; exceptional! Well kept beer, friendly staff/owners, very good locally produced food and dog friendly too! Great little pub!

The Red Lion, Moorgate

Really nice traditional pub (especially for this area). Relaxed atmosphere. well kept beers and I'll definitely be back when I'm next in the area.

30 Oct 2009 19:40

The New Inn, Church Knowle

Lovely building, beers well kept but expensive, food also very nice. Not a cosy pub but relaxed and very picturesque. Worth a look if you're in the area.

20 Oct 2009 21:46

The Sailors Return, East Chaldon

Back again last week. Still very friendly, good choice of well-kept beers and good food too! Nice relaxed atmosphere, dogs also welcomed. Recommended!

20 Oct 2009 21:42

The Castle, Framlingham

The pub was friendly, clean and comfortable when we visitied and had lunch last week. It's not a cosy country inn but the beer, food and staff were all good.
Not expensive either; maybe the earlier comments were from somebody not used to southern or cosmopolitan prices.
I'll definitely return when I next visit Framlingham Castle.....

23 Sep 2009 20:49

The White Hart, Blythburgh

I haven't been (or stayed) here for about a year and feel the food has deteriorated ; it was ok (but not very good, as before). The beers were well kept as usual.
There seemed to be some 'friction' amongst the staff too, although they were very friendly and helpful to me!
I hope they pull things around because this is still a good pub but not quite as good as previously.

23 Sep 2009 20:44

Queen Victoria, Theydon Bois

All the recent changes and money spent have made this much better than before (and it was good before). The staff and owners are always friendly and the new outside decking area is very nicely done and comfortable (weather permitting). Food always good and reasonably priced and the beer is ALWAYS well kept. Recommended!

20 Aug 2009 12:49

Bankes Arms Hotel and Country Inn, Studland

Excellent Ploughmans lunch. Well kept beers and a good range and choice too!
Touristy but friendly and comfortable.

3 Jul 2009 23:35

Red Lion, Winfrith Newburgh

Good beers and very good fish dishes! Friendly staff too.....recommended.

3 Jul 2009 23:34

The Sailors Return, East Chaldon

My local for this week! Very friendly staff and well kept beers....very good Copper and Ringwood Best.......food also very tasty and decent portions.
New owners/managers....nice people!

3 Jul 2009 23:31

O'Neills, Blackheath

I only ever use this pub at lunchtime and it is always fine. Well kept Guinness and reasonable and tasty food....bar staff are usually fine too!
I can't comment on the situation in the evening but can recommend lunchtimes for a comfortable and reasonably priced visit.

7 Mar 2009 16:50

The Hare and Billet, Blackheath

I agree (partially) with the last comment. The pub and toilets are clean and spacious BUT it's lost the atmosphere it's always had with Dan there! ALSO the music is far too loud and out of place in a village local. Turn it off!
Guiness was fine but the Youngs was not very good!
Shame.........I've been going to this pub since the 1970s and it's not the same now...change is only good when it improves the place; this pub is ok but not as good as previously.

7 Mar 2009 16:47

The Viper, Mill Green

Why this pub only has an 8.4 average is beyond me! Every time I go it is faultless.....very well kept beers, good beer choice, well cooked and well priced food, friendly and efficient staff, good guvnor and missus, and friendly locals. Plenty of character and a great location. What more do people want from a pub?
I wish is was my 'local'...

10 Jan 2009 19:34

The White Lion, Fobbing

As before; excellent beer, good food, good value, friendly and welcoming! Spot on!

21 Nov 2008 22:09

The Nags Head, Moreton

This is a cracking Sunday lunch pub....worth the drive. Friendly staff and good beer! Always consistent; just a decent vilage pub, no frills but comfortable and welcoming.

8 Nov 2008 16:45

The Kings Head, Woodbridge

Always worth a look when in Woodbridge. The new staff are friendly and the beer as well kept as always! A cracking pub....

8 Nov 2008 16:39

The White Lion, Fobbing

Lunch yesterday (5th November) was my first visit but won't be my last. Nothing flashy, just a really good honest pub. Food was reasonable and good and the pints of Directors were very good! Friendly too! I'll definitely be back for more...

6 Nov 2008 10:34

The Jolly Sailor, Orford

Visited this fantastic village inn on Monday 3rd November for lunch....very good quality food, a perfect pint (or 3) of Adnams Broadside , a choice of jug or straight glass and an unspoilt rustic bar. Perfect! I'll be back............

6 Nov 2008 10:29

The Crown and Sceptre, South Croydon

Popped in on a midweek lunchtime...very friendly and helpful barman, exceptional pint, sausage and onion sandwich......a traditional and comfortable pub! I wish is was my local !
