Island, Caversham

went there on a Tue night - was pretty quiet but perfect to sit and eat out on the decking / terrace.
restaurant not open apparently yet but the barfood was pretty special I must say - better than some "restaurant" fare I've been offered in the past.
top place to eat and entertain - will go back on a weekend to see how busy it gets!

The Bell Inn, Aldworth

awesome unspoilt country pub - but closing times (traditional) caught me out on sunday - BUM!!

so had to carry on searching...

The Griffin, Caversham

my fave caversham pub - by the river.

(although you cant really see it - shame - missed opportunity there poss!?! !- perhaps the staff dont want to walk to the river from pub to fish out drunken clientel!?!?)
its now a chef and brewer so usual standards apply there - but food is indeed good and beer and the outside beer garden is lovely and quite buzzing at times.
nice interior, atractive attendees and you can always brush up on yr antipodean lingo with the bar staff.
nice! ..

The Crown On The Bridge, Caversham

hmmmmm, odd - yes i agree - popped in here the other day (admittedly a tue, but ive been in before once it was summer., people were happy, this time it was OK.)
it served beer, so cant really complain but its not nice enough to want to go back to unless all other options are too far or i'm too lazy....

The Rose and Thistle, Reading

Unassuming local pub, with a fantastic atmos inside

- filled (usually) with a selection of older "locals" and quite a few younger ones too(30 something's) of which I am one.

cool friendly punters, quiz's on thursdays (free) and sundays (quid) which can be taxing on lager fuelled brains.
worth a go to see if you can beat the papercups (in-bred locals with internet brains).

lots of sport to watch on good screens, and excellent front and rear gardens to soak up the sun in summer.

food is good and plentifull with sue at the helm, service at the bar is usually prompt and with a smile.

many charity nights and events - usually worth a look although Australia day / night was pants this yr...

top pub - seems to have what the rest of the Reading's pubs dont - character! (now wheres my free pint)

The Purple Turtle, Reading

Bit stinky, bit crowded (later on) and definately grungy.

but its very different, can be super social, and they dont hold it against you if you get kicked out for being lashed up or split yr face open on the corner of the downstairs bar and have to be karted off in an ambulance.

probably the best place to actually meet new people in Reading (pubs) but make sure you havent strayed from Risa / revs.... as you might get a shock.

The King William IV, Hailey

awesome little pub tucked away, overlooking its own little valley in the hills, definately a top notch summer pub - ( little too cosy in side for any numbers of people and food is indede pricey - although not too bad)

like most pubs these days the previous incarnation with previous landlord (who I believe sadly passed away??) was more traditional and before it was discovered by the masses.

we used to frequent it as annoying yoofs on little Motorbikes out for a friday pint O' scrumpy, and still go back to this day, despite having "grown up".

A great place for a sunday ride - (on a proper bike), or a scenic drive. take the good lady wife / mistress -she will be impressed.

The Clapham North, Clapham North

all in all not a bad little venue for beer and brunch, spent a saturday night in there a couple of months ago, the place was buzzing enough and not TOO jam packed although the bar staff could have been a little quicker -
(not helped by the guy leaning on the bar in front of dropping his rather fermented guts - which may say more about the clientele than the place its-self?)

usual complaints about ridiculous noise levels, and subsequent inability to converse.
