The Bank House, Cheltenham

As the previous reviewer said, nearly two years ago, this pub is now a Wetherspoon. As such it is exactly what you would expect, large and with plenty of good beer. It's also extremely handy for anyone getting the bus into Cheltenham.

The Coal House Inn, Apperley

I'm not quite sure when this pub opens but when it is, it's a real gem. The landlord really knows how to keep beer. The only problem with the pub is the location, it's at the end of long cul-de-sac heading out of Apperley. If you do find it, however, it's well worth it.

The Red Lion, Norton

I was disappointed with this pub. It's in a prime location next to the river Severn in fantastic surroundings. If you are sitting outside enjoying the scenery you have to have your beer in a flimsy plastic glass, allegedly on health and safety grounds. Most other pubs in the area seem to manage to serve people in proper glasses whether inside or out. The taste of the beer obviously suffered when served like this. Don't think I'll be returning any time soon.

The Compass Inn, Winsor

Beer festival on late spring bank holiday is one of the best I've been to. If you can sit outside then it is very nearly perfect. The beer is superb and you'll be hard pressed to get better anywhere.

The Woolpack Inn, Beckington

Stayed over the Easter weekend and found the pub to be very good. Good food, good beer and good cider. The only fly in the ointment was the glacially slow service on Good Friday. This seems to have been a one off problem, as on the following two nights the food was served in a timely manner.

The King Rufus, Eling

The staff certainly didn't seem rude when I visited. For a small out of the way pub, there was a good selection of real ales too. Four different ones: Eden project bitter, Thwaites bomber, Ringwood bitter and one other (summer lightning?). Excellent quality beer, well worth a visit. Didn't try the food, but that looked excellent too.

The Hampshire Bowman, Dundridge

Now reopened after alterations. The front bar seems to have remained relatively intact, with the addition of another, more spacious, bar. I think that the customers of old will still like the front bar, and others who prefer a more open feel will like the other bar. The one thing everyone should agree on is that the beer is still excellent. All in all still a good pub. Well worth going out of your way for a beer there.

The Elsted Inn, Elsted

A pub with good food and beer. The main bitter is the local brew, Ballards. Well worth trying. Staff friendly

The George and Dragon, Ramsdell

A good pub in the middle of nowhere. A good place to get refuelled on a Sunday cycle ride.

The beer was pretty good, and the food more than acceptable.

The Dog and Duck, Winchmore Hill

A superb pub with an excellent beer garden. The beer is well kept and the place very friendly. Located just a bit off the beaten track which probably explains the 'local' feel. Well worth going to if you're in the area and on the lookout for a good ale in a friendly atmosphere.

The Knights Cross, North Baddesley

A bit variable. Sometimes have real ales, sometimes not. When they do have the real ale, it's good stuff.

The Brushmakers Arms, Upham

Great pub to cycle to, as well as walk. The place gets really busy on a Sunday, but that's not surprising given the quality of the food. I'll definitely be making a return trip some day. Hopefully soon.

Drovers Inn, Gussage all Saints

This pub is certainly spartan, but with beer this good, who cares? They had the Ringwoods Porter on when I went in. Superb. The food was OK, portions large! It was reasonably busy at 1pm on Sunday, but not packed to the rafters.

The Hampshire Bowman, Dundridge

I have to agree with the other reviewers. This pub is excellent. Good beer, good food, and they even welcome wet cyclists at Sunday lunchtime. It may be a long way from anywhere else, but once you've arrived here, there's no need to move on. I particularly liked the barrels behind the bar. Haven't seen that outside a beer festival in years.
