The Five Horseshoes, Maidensgrove

This pub is lovely we go there for dates it is romantic and the log fires and views are just stunning. The food is quality local food which makes a huge difference this pub is slightly expensive but they do have weekly offers on. They also have a mailing list and they send you newsletters which include wine tasting evenings etc. We travel 25miles to this pub because it is as a pub should be, warm, cosy, real ales, local people, log fires, country views, nice people, and lovely meals. Please try it and see for yourself in the summer it is busy go on a week day off peak.

Dundas Arms, Kintbury

This was a nice meal, not cheap but fresh tasting and hot would eat there again. I do like the location also feels like you are somewhere special if the sun is out it is a place you want to be although they seem to open when it suits them and not the customer? However they are probably a well estblished Pub and can open when they like.

The Bell, Boxford

Very odd experience, the pub is trying to be posh and also trendy and young with a big screen with MTV showing. I wouldn't go back there due to the price and quality of the food, 1 x pint shandy = 3.40. Burger = 9.00 on its own? No chips, no salad? I ordered Chips as an extra and was charged 3.35. There was 2 x Dogs in the bar which barked and was off putting while eating. There was a very friendly chap behind the bar but couldnt speak very good english and couldnt answer questions about the menu. The other dish i ordered wasnt what i ordered and they said no we havent got that in?? therefore not fresh and just assumed i would have something else without asking? Im not sure how such a large pub stay's open it must have loyal and local trade. It could be such a great pub the prices are too high.

Hinds Head, Aldermaston

This was terrible food no taste poor quality and a complete rip off. The pub looks lovely but the food doesnt even match a Harvester. I had the bread and olives which im sure was part baked bread. I was chewing for ages not nice. Plus they charge you for this. The fish cakes were the worse i have ever had i wish i stayed in and had M&S ones fresh with a lemon sauce. They were suppose to be smoked Haddock i can honestly say i could taste anything apart from Fat /oil. They only come with lettuce that was it for about 7 the chips were cold but these are a side order for 2.50. I would never go back there if you want nice Fish and chip's go to The Boot @ Standford Dingley much better quality.
