The Lord Nelson, Poole

Went here on Sunday April 10. It was a beautiful sunny day so we sat outside, which was great. It is a real bikers pub with heavy metal music inside. We had lunch, which was reasonably priced and good pub fayre. The beer was good (Tanglefoot). I'm not so sure I would have enjoyed it as much sat inside.

The New Inn, Salisbury

Called her for lunch on April 8th. Pub has a lovely beer garden (the weather was superb) and a good selection of 3 ales, and it allows dogs in the garden (you have to walk through the pub). The food was expensive but satisfactory (no more). We found the staff in the pub ok, but the woman serving the garden area had a real 'attitude' on her. We wouldn't return to this pub because of her. Shame as the pub itself is lovely.

The Haven House, Christchurch

Was visiting the area 8-12 April, and was in Mudeford on the 11 April. I disagree with the previous person's comments. This is a crackin pub - superb location, great beer, nice food, they allow dogs in, and inside was not dingy - it was a traditional cosy pub to me. Yes, the food is a little pricey, but if you accept that it is pub fayre in a prime location, then it's fine. I wouldn't fancy it on a busy summer's weekend though - it must be mobbed. Perhaps it's odd to comment on this, but the loos were recently refurbished and were very clean - usually a good omen for any pub.We loved the pub and would go back again. I guess we all have different tastes and expectations.

The Sandacres Free House, Sandbanks

Was staying in the area for a long weekend 8-12 April, having read the reviews, we gave it a try. It's great to have a real pub in amongst all the glitz of Sandbanks. As others have said, outside looks are do deceive, and inside it's nothing fancy - it's just a good pub. Good selection of 4 ales, really friendly staff, great pub grub, they let dogs in, and there is a great view over the bay from inside and the seats outside.

The Tynllidiart Arms, Capel Bangor

went for a pint and a lunchtime meal mid week in early dec. the beer was great, the food superb, and the staff really friendly. This is a classic pub with an open fire, highly recommended.

The Ship and Castle, Aberystwyth

The beer is still great! In response t the previous review about an update, the plans are on the wall in the pub to update next summer (2009). The barman was reassuring that it would still be a real ale pub!

The Railway Inn, Borth

This is a nice pub. In the summer there are usually two ales on, all year round Rev James is served. It's a well kept pint but is a little cold. THe food is good value hearty home cooked pub fare. I can recommend the braised beef in a red wine and garlic sauce, and the chips are excellent!

Friendship Inn, Borth

Having recently moved to Borth, we've tried all four pubs. This and the Railway are the best. This is a great olde worlde pub where proper pub values are upheld. mike keeps a great pint of Butty Bach. Opening hours are 'around' 12 to 3 and 7 to 11ish. If you come to the carnival in august, this is the pub to be at. The carnival snail racing night is a real joy!
If you're looking for a pristine modern pub then try the Victoria over the road - the beer is average, but it has a nice view of the sea from the back of the pub!

The Ship and Castle, Aberystwyth

What a great pub. Went in Thursday 13 December. Friendly staff, nice bohemian crowd and some great beer - had an excellent pint of Woods Christmas Cracker. Went to a couple of other pubs as well but came back here.

Bar Essential, Aberystwyth

Went in here a couple of weeks after it opened in November for a Monday night drink. It was fairly busy and the Rev James was good, but the refit is souless, and also not finished off very well, which is indicative of the whole place - going on the previous comment. Not a real ale or true pub lovers establishment.

The Fountain, Aberystwyth

25 May 07, went on a reckie as thinking of moving down to this area. It was a Friday lunch time and the other CAMRA recommended real ale pubs in the Centre were closed, found this little gem though, and although it was very quiet, it was a friendly really nice pub, and the Brains Dark Real Ale was just right. Menu looked good, but we had already eaten. Looking forwad to returning when we move doen this way.

The Red Lion, Machynlleth

Great pub, Great beer. 2 Banks and a guest ale. All well kept. Friendly welcome, but surprisngly quiet for a Friday night, and on saturday watching the six nations rugby. Exterior looks great, interior - seats are beer stained, but its ok.

The Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Machynlleth

Stayed for 2 nights in early march 2007. Hotel has been tastefully redecorated. Excellent breakfast and main meals. There's also a pizzeria on site which had good quality and reasonably priced pizza etc.
The ales were Brains - Rev. James, Morland - Speckled Hen & Green King - IPA. On the Friday night the beers weren't so good, but on Saturday the Rev. James was very good (think they'd cleaned the lines?)
Overall I'd recommend this place, friendly staff and a huge inglenook fireplace.

The Bull's Head Hotel, Brecon

This is a great pub. We visited it on 2 consequtive nights (21/21 July 06) for beer and food. The 4 Evan Evans (Llandeilo)beer was very well kept (they were pulling through when we went in!). The food was excellent and also great value for money. On the 2nd night I had a special - blackened Gower Sea Bass Ceasar Salad - which was divine. The other 3 had great food on both bights too.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. On the saturday they finish serving food at 8pm, but a number of people came in at 830 and after asking the chef, they served them - how refreshing!
