The Running Horses, Mickleham

Went here for a swift lunchtime pint. 5 real ales, the Ringwood I had was lovely. The chips I ordered were superb! Real spuds, nicely crisp, lots of them, a nice big pot of mayo when I asked, piping hot. A nice blazing log fire to sit in front of. Polite attentive staff, as has been mentioned elsewhere, what's not to like?

Ye Olde Kings Head, Epsom

Must have caught this on a bad day. Very sour pint of Doombar. Shame, it could be a nice local.

Stephan Langton Inn, Abinger Common

Was there on a beautiful sunny bank holiday Monday. Sitting outside, the trees are full of birdsong, and hardly anyone can get a mobile signal - bliss!

Ordered the Arch Bitter of Canterbury beer. Bog ordinary Greene King bitter. Slightly sour tasting, wondered if they sell enough bitter for the choice they offer. Perhaps fewer bitters better kept would be a better approach.

Looked at the bar food, but the prices kept my hands in my pockets.

Looked in the dining room, very nice rebuild done there. Unfortunately nearly empty at 12:30 on a Bank Holiday Monday. Maybe it picks up in the evening.

The Magpie, Sunbury on Thames

Service excellent and quick. Much better than the last time I was in there. Indeed man behind the bar spotted I was back for another pint of Abbott's and was quick to inform me the Speckled Hen would be on shortly. When it appeared "shortly" would be a bit long, he volunteered to bring it to my seat. Nice! So far so good.

Unfortunately the beer was good, but I think the pipes needed cleaning. I've certainly had worse Abbott's and worse Speckled Hen, but it didn't taste clean, kind of muddy with a strange after taste for both beers (and I should have stuck with the Abbott's as it's sweeter taste did a better job of masking the after taste).

Didn't eat there but the menu looked tempting. Despite the beer issue, I'll return.

Fish Hotel, Buttermere

Thought the place exactly what you'd want in a country inn. Warm welcome, good range of beers well kept and the food... I had a wonderful sirloin steak cooked exactly as requested that just melted in the mouth. My wife had the scampi and chips, which she said was excellent. Her sister had the hamburger which also earned great praise. The chips are real chips, toasty hot and delicious.
The landlord even came and helped us break into the nearby disabled loo when we mislaid the RADAR key - now that is service!

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Met some old chums here as we used to use the dart board here a lot. What a disappointment. The beer (old Brewery) was like vinegar. Sent the first pint back. Bar staff could not have been less interested. "I don't like beer" said the one who seemed to be in charge. Got served from another tap and it was poor but drinkable. What can you do? Vow we'll never return and warn the rest of you likewise. There are plenty of places in the city to get a good pint, The Citie of Yorke isn't one of them.

The Cock Inn, Headley

Went for lunch yesterday. Excellent hot roast beef sandwich. Well kept pint of Caledonian bitter. Friendly bar staff. Not much to look at from the outside but warm and friendly inside. What's not to like?

The Chequers, Walton On The Hill

Dropped by for lunch. Friendly staff, good pint of Doombar (so don't understand the comment about lack of guest beers), great club sandwich delivered reasonably quickly. The pub has a reasonable seating area out front, a huge seating area out back and a big seating area inside. Definitely going back!

The Anglers, Teddington

Took some friends from Australia here on Saturday. Weather was scorching. Expected it to be overrun. Sitting outside was fine, big table, comfy chairs. Ordered food and drink expecting nothing special. The Fullers Honey Dew was lovely, well kept and just the right temperature. The club sandwich was superb quality, 3 big slices of French bread, chicken and bacon. Service was fast, but we deliberately ordered early and they forgot one item from the order. still going to give this 7/10. Unexpectedly good!

The Plough, Cobham

Dropped in here for a lunchtime pint yesterday. Cant say I noticed the decor but the bar area seemed pleasant enough. The beer Hogs Back something or other was fine. Sat outside in the sun. Not a fan of piped music, it's always so very difficult to please everyone. Think outside would have been better with no music. The food (a chicken and bacon club sandwich) more than made up for it though. Truly excellent! Definitely going back there when I get the opportunity.

The Running Horses, Mickleham

So nice to get back to a decent pub yesterday's experience of the Black Swan. Beer was good, both the Doombar and Seafarers. The sandwiches (avocado and bacon) turned up swiftly, tasted good and disappeared just the same. Friendly service, don't recognise the comment about the bar staff - they seemed perfectly nice and responsive to me. Definitely one of my favourite pubs anywhere.

The Black Swan, Martyr's Green

Dropped in for a pint and some sort of bar food in yesterday's lovely weather. You can't just walk into the bar, got directed to a table and told someone would be with me to take drinks order. No-one turned up in ten minutes despite a reminder. Left for The Plough, Cobham. Much better!
