The Devereux, Temple

Agree with the last post. Called in on a Friday night and the place was dead. Me & a friend were the only people in there. However I get the feeling that even if it was packed to the rafters it'd still be quite soulless. Quite a bit out of the way so doubt it has passing trade but has the potential to be better.

The Cheshire Cheese, Temple

Called in one Friday evening and thought the place was great. Small, out of the way but charming and a welcome relief from over stylized chain bars & pubs.

The Blacksmiths Arms, St Albans

I like this place a lot. Not sure what it is exactly but its a good size with an excellent beer garden. Service level does depend on who you get and deteriorates the less busy the place is as the bar staff go on to standby mode. Beer selection is good, seasonal and caters for light and dark ale drinkers.

Waterend Barn, St Albans

One of the best Wetherspoons I've been in. Large but cosy, busy yet relaxing. I've tried the breakfasts and they are top notch. Beer wise they have the usual but the changing pumps occasionally provide a welcome addition. Usually a good balance between IPA and dark ale.

The Swan, Bloomsbury

Quite liked this place on my last visit. As some have said, nothing spectacular but then, whats wrong with that? The place is cosy and welcoming with an extensive and varied real ale offering so a big thumbs up.

The Driftwood Spars Hotel, St Agnes

Brilliant, atmospheric old pub with a great selection of beers and microbrewery. Tintagel's Cornwall's Pride was excellent when I was in.
