Reasonable pub in my view, though certainly others in the area are better (Seven Stars and Edgar Wallace would be my top two as well). However it is apparently closing down at the weekend, and will definitely be a loss. LIkely to end up as housing or offices I'm afraid.

It's all right but doesn't have the character of the other pubs nearby namely the Seven Stars and the Edgar Wallace. Beer was Taylor Walker: the barrel had just gone on so it may not have had time to settle.

We decided to use the Devereux as the starting point for a mini pub crawl. Perhaps we should have chosen The Edgar Wallace around the corner instead? But the since the Devereux features in the current CAMRA Good Beer Guide and we'd never been in there before, it was mainly an exercise in "box ticking". A range of four fairly unimaginative real ales were on offer, so we chose a pint each of Taylor Walker 1730 and Truman's Runner for which we were charged an eye watering £8.90! To make matters worse, the quality of the beer was "mediocre". There was nothing special about the pub itself - though it is situated in an interesting and largely hidden part of London devoted to legal profession - perhaps they don't mind paying £4.45 for a pint but I do!

We love the deveruex. Great spot for a pint of (well kept and varied) ale after a wander around temple inn next door. If on the strand and tempted to go into the infinitely inferior George, go in here instead.

Agree with the last post. Called in on a Friday night and the place was dead. Me & a friend were the only people in there. However I get the feeling that even if it was packed to the rafters it'd still be quite soulless. Quite a bit out of the way so doubt it has passing trade but has the potential to be better.
