The Stoke, Guildford

They have a proper pizza oven which produces good fare. Ales good. Sport on TV. Large function room which hosts all sorts of things - salsa, church, comedy etc. One gripe - the blokes toilets in the function room are awful (toilet seats don't stay up and cracked; no urinals)

The Britannia, Guildford

No pool table now. The place doesn't have a whole lot of character.

Scrumptious, Guildford

Appears to have a very late bar. Just have to wait and see how this place turns out... Chippy next door :)

The Thai Terrace, Guildford

This is a restaraunt with a cocktail lounge area and outdoor seating. Large selection of cocktails and fantastic service (prices reflect this, but you can't argue). You will completely forget you're on top of a car park! Stunning views over the whole of Guildford and beyond. In the summer - watch the sun setting over the Cathederal from the terrace.

The Live and Let Live, Guildford

I go in here once a year for a departmental Christmas bash. Same regulars each year. They really are the odd squad, but the staff were very friendly (possibly because we amount to 30% of the annual turnover). Not sure about the high score this place has!

All Bar One, Guildford

A very popular place. The food is a bit different; they say it's a canteen, but that's just being trendy. Slightly fussy food, but served from early to late.

The late licence has attracted the masses, so it's not so 'catalogue man' as it used to be.

Go there for:
- A beer after work in the week
- Late bar and dance on a Friday/Saturday
- Coffee break while shopping on Saturday
- Hangover cure on Sunday afternoon and read their papers if you can still focus.

The Keystone, Guildford

Not the 6th form common room any more, but surprisingly quiet now. I think the "new" Whitehouse is drawing people away. I like it, but something's missing. Perhaps it'll be good for the summer - out on the decking.

The Five and Lime, Guildford

I agree with steve o - the bar staff are very easy on the eye, but Id say the place is well staffed. I reckon they have the same number of staff as Wetherspoons. Yes, its a cool place and sometimes the punters are a little sub-zero, but theyre amusing to watch nonetheless. Then theres the odd night when the carnival must arrive in town and its full of really odd folk. Strange. But I do love the place. Musics also very good most of the time. That's why it gets so busy.

Casino, Guildford

Designed to be a feeder bar for The Drink. You can sit right next to the pelican crossing on the one way system and pay a fortune for a drink. Its deserted until 11pm at which point it gathers the strays and stupidly drunk until it is packed.

I dont see any reason to go there other than for morbid curiosity or when unable to make rational decisions when drunk. So Ill see you in there soon!

Bar Med, Guildford

Take it for what it is - an alcopop eyecandy bar with a DJ (laaad!) on the slippery path down Bridge street to Bar Zuka/Mambo. I prefer it to Yates and Edwards later in the evening, but at that point I'm less discerning about the bogs. Just get rid of the damn toilet attendant. We don't need it.

Lots of screens for trippy music visuals and showing the sport during the day. Theres pool and table football there now too which is perhaps a sign that the formula needs to be tweaked.

Bar 36, Guildford

I think this quite a reasonable place. It has a modern feel and the bar is a fair size (with an odd downstairs bar too).

Given it's location on the outer rim of Guildford's beer guzzling galaxy I'm quite surprised how busy it gets. When I say busy, I mean you need to be taking it easy on the pies if you want to be able to squeeze past the bar to get downstairs. It has the advantage of the late bar and attracting a bit of a niche audience (the 30 somethings!)
