The Sole Bay Inn, Southwold

Not having been to Southwold for a few years, I was expecting a good pint in the convivial surroundings of the timeless Sole Bay Inn. But I was shocked to fine the heart had been ripped out of this fine pub and replaced by some sort of second rate wine bar. Who ever instigated this massacre should be hanging their head in shame. Admams I had always thought, although making occasional foolish decisions such as discontinuing brewing mild, had their heart in the right place, I was obviously wrong. I will not attempt another visit and urge others to follow my example.

The Poacher, Cratfield

Still the best pub in the area. Beer still at 2.50 a pint an in tip-top condition too. Why go to the Low House when the Poacher is so much better.

The Three Horseshoes, Warham

Good traditional food. Lots of pies and game served with real veg. Very good Wherry.

The Three Swallows, Holt

Good honest pub. Good pub food at reasonable cost. Adnams and some of the unmentionable product from Bury St Edmunds. Served through a sparkler, shame.

Fantastic building and interior, wish I could say the same about my visit. Food okay if predictable, beer was good but very expensive. Staff disinterested.

Lost atmosphere in recent refurbishment. Good beer. Good food. Watch out for short measures

Thinks too much of its self. Beer quality variable. Food expensive. Gone down hill under present management.

The Poacher, Cratfield

The best pub in the area, unpretentious, at least five good beers (cheap, many at 2.50), genial host. What more can you ask from a pub.
