The Ship and Whale, Rotherhithe

This place has gone from strength to strength. The sunday roasts are unsurpassed. I recently had a duck breast with all the sunday trimmings, and you would be hard pressed to find better anywhere. Try the cornish ale when you are here also - very tasty.

Moby Dick, Surrey Quays

Moby Dick has a great location, friendly bar staff, a decent selection of ales (its a Fullers pub), and has an ok menu of very reasonably priced food. The sunday lunch is good, as are their pizzas and more usual bar foods. Nothing too fancy, but what they do, they do well. Its one of the three best pubs in the area, together with the wibbley wobbley and the ship and whale.

Wibbly Wobbly, Surrey Quays

The Wibbley is a great little pub. Shame they can't get some proper ales (the ruddles doesn't quite cut the mustard) but the put is unique and should be applauded because of that. As other writers have said though, it is just too smokey inside for comfort. Very nice out on the floating bit during the warmer months though.

The Fire Station, Waterloo

I ate here last night and all I can say is never again. It was my own stupidity I suppose, ordering what was billed as 'tandori-seared tuna steak', which supposedly came with Sag Aloo, Banana Raitha, popodom and aubergine chutney. Far to ambitious a meal for this pub to pull off. The tuna would have been ok had it not been rubbed with some awful red gunk. The sag alloo was actually a bed of foul-tasting fried potatoes - tasted like the oil was rancid - and a scoop of wilted spinach leaves. The banana raitha tasted of chemicals and the pop was soft, as if it had been sitting around for too long. The aubergine was ok though. All this for just 12.95!
