I used to love this pub -- it had an amazing free juke box and when it wasn't on a guy with his stereo from his bedroom playing rave cds. It had a smelly dog 2 pool tables with ripped felt but no-one minded. I spent one of the happiest afternoons ever in the garden, it's such a shame it closed down. Someone set fire to it recently so I guess it's not going to open again.

I can't believe it! What a shame! But to be fair, it feels like a lot of them (pubs with character) are going the same way...

**15/05/06** Very sadly this pub appears to be closed - in fact, it is boarded up with metal shutters at the moment. This has upset me very much.

The Cecil is a very 'special' pub. It is simultaneously friendly and threatening. It certainly has atmosphere though, and the locals are fantastic - you'll never need to visit London Zoo if you drink here enough. One of the pool tables is always broken - but this adds a new dimension of 'holding up the cushion' to the game which can be almost as fun as the game itself. The barbecues, reggae and garage nights add pleasing sounds and smells to the experience. The bar staff are lovely. The jukebox seems to have been programmed to play only early 90s dance music or gay anthems when idle. Fantastic. The bitter is always off, but who cares? It's the sheer joy of being in the place that makes me go there - not the booze. Long live the CECIL!

Nuts and bolts boozer. Not ideal for romantic dates or acid
