It was too busy for me to note down all of the ales on sale last Saturday (and too far into our pub crawl) but I remember choosing one of the Pilot Brewery's beers (possibly the Gold) rather than the "served flat unless otherwise requested" Bass and thinking it was better than the equivalent I had drunk a couple of hours earlier in the Gower Brewery taproom on Newton Road. My overriding memory, sadly, is of a group of retired elderly gentlemen sitting opposite us, one of whom badly needed an immediate change of trousers (shame his friends couldn't have looked after him better).... paul_d102 - 14 Jun 2023 14:52 |
It's still sat there, in that groove, as well described hereinbefore, and is absolutely fine for that. Have eight-out-of-ten. Hulots_hat - 17 Sep 2019 17:20 |
We made the trip out to the Mumbles to try Wales CAMRA's pub of the year. It's a good pub. But I'm not convinced that it's the best pub in Wales - I could name at least 10 that I think are better. Even locally, the Railway Inn at Upper Killay takes some beating. Nevertheless, it has a good range of ales - Pilot Wrecker, Gold & Black Storm, Tiny Rebel Beat Box, Sharps Doom Bar & Rudgate Ostara. There are no real ciders. But they do have a good selection of Welsh and Somerset ciders in bottles. Has a nice location on the seafront. We continued by having a stroll in the sun to the Mumbles Rugby Club (not listed on here). Two poor Tomos Watkins ales later and we'd wished we'd stayed in the Pilot! blue_scrumpy - 12 Apr 2015 15:00 |
I went to the Pilot having been recommended as it is a CAMRA award winning pub with it's own brewery on-site. The staff were friendly and offered useful advice on the range of beers available. The pub is situated in a great location on the front at The Mumbles overlooking Swansea Bay. It seemed very popular with locals and visitors alike, as the small premises were crowded with Saturday night drinkers. The range of real ales is excellent and includes guest beers as well as those actually brewed in the pub. Pilot Gold was a delicious pint! Thoroughly recommended and will certainly visit again when in that area. localhero72 - 16 Mar 2015 18:59 |
Strange comment by Mumbles 1 below I thought, if he likes it so much up the Park Inn, and Mumbles Ale House, why doesn't he just stay up there and drink in those Pubs, rather than complain about Richard at the Pilot, whom I've always found very hospitable........
