A little smarter than the other pub in the village and the clientele was more restrained. Quite big inside but still cosy with interesting pictures on the walls. St Austell HSD was in good order.

Don't know if it was because the Sun was shining, but The Lizard as a village seemed prettier and more welcoming than on my previous visits, admittedly 15 years ago or so... We parked at the NT car park at Kynanace cove and walked to Lizard point, surely one of the greatest walks in Britain... Stopped for a swift pint at The Top House; Pub was nice, beers were St.Austell Proper Job (excellent), Best and Tribute. Didn't eat, so cant comment on food. One footnote; There are a couple of tables in front of the pub, but if you visit midday/early afternoon there is an excellent little terrace which is a real sun trap at this time around the back.

Visited last Sunday lunchtime for a pint. Apparently new landlord, made a good effort to be welcoming despite "reserved" signs on almost all the tables. Good open fire. St Austell beer good.

Got off on the wrong foot here - the blackboard outside says it opens at 11:30, but had to wait around outside till 12! However, the Dartmoor was excellent.

We stayed nearby and used this pub over a few evenings last week and found it to be excellent. There's a really good atmosphere about the place, with lots of people who were clearly local. Some of the other reviews here suggest that locals have abandoned The Top House but that's clearly true only of some- there are plenty who still use it. The beer and wine were good and the food was very good - the menu looked like 'pub grub' but was cooked to a much higher standard than average.
