Probably the best local in the area although not sure the beers are always that fresh... Poose - 18 Feb 2014 11:22 |
Enjoyed a few good pints of master brew yesterday before the palace game.Excellent pub and customers. talesofthebar - 1 Sep 2013 14:55 |
Karaoke starts too late (9pm). Beer is okay. Landlord very good. Atmosphere good. glenfarg - 6 Jun 2012 00:14 |
Croydon's only Sheps pub is a short walk from Selhurt station and undoubtedly the pick of the three pubs in the immediate vicinity. Spitfire and Master Brew were on offer when I visited this week, although the Master Brew I tried didn't taste too good. The staff and locals were very friendly and service was prompt. There appeared to be plenty organised to keep the locals entertained, with karaoke, a quiz and 'happy hours' all advertised, but things were very quiet whilst I was there. There were large screen TV's and what looked like a projector, but I didn't see sport advertised - maybe this is saved for match days. And yes - there is a preserved crocodile above the bank of seating at the front of the pub. Not too impressed, but I feel a return trip, perhaps in the summer to check out the beer garden, is needed to fully appreciate the place. Pubsignman - 17 Dec 2009 23:32 |
Having just moved to the area, I went for a drink here because it had pretty good reviews. Was really chuffed to find a proper (probably antique) bar billiards table. The landlord was really friendly and even explained the rules. (Which was lucky, as I hadn't played since I was 12!) Good real ale, reasonable prices even on spirits, friendly staff, pickled eggs and pickled crocodile. (My friends always want to go for a pint here, just to see the fabled pickled crocodile.) Plus a good duke box. On match days it's crammed just before (aren't all pubs around Selhurst?) so avoid then if you want a quiet pint. It can be a bit too quiet, would be my only negative comment.
