I used to go to this pub in the 70's with my folks, I revisited it in the middle of Septmber (2008) and it had closed three days before for good ... a sign of the times :-(

Just found this pub by chance. Will make a good pint stop on walks through Epping Forest from Wanstead to Chingford. Seemed like a friendly enough local. Pretty barmaid.

I recently came across this web site, and noted comments of the users. I recently visited the Prince Of Wales after drinking in there many years ago and found that the pub itself has changed dramatically for the better. I met with the licensee and manager, a lady called Allyson, who seemed to have the right frame of mind for running a pub and is always trying to improve and better the pub for her customers. I had a very enjoyable evening, the food was fantastic and I will definitely be revisiting. Nice to know that some managers like to keep with the traditions of pubs.

With all due respect, Rotski's comments about "Gercha's" (there is no T) say more about his/her views of certain social groups than they do about the Prince.

The fight mentioned must've been the only one in recent memory as, although the clientelle are of the more down to earth variety they certainly arent roughneck brawlers.

Although in my 15 year experience this pub has experienced fluctuating fortunes it is certainly not a bad place and, indeed, has recently experienced an upswing with new manager Mehmet and his team really putting some effort in to restore the pub to former (mid 90's) glory.

A self policing and generally friendly (we all have bad days) group of locals make this a decent pub.

Perhaps the over sensitive should stick to the gastropubs.

Enjoy.
