I come from South London and always pop in here when visiting relatives in the area. It's an excellent provincial pub, good choice of well kept ales, friendly staff and punters, clean toilets. 9/10.

Walked passed this place on Saturday without noticing as it was covered in scaffolding and tarpaulin.
Business as usual though inside what must be one of the best JDW pubs in the country.
12 hand pulls 1 for Abbott 1 for Ruddles and 1 for Cider 9 others for the guest beers which cost £2.05 - £2.20 a pint.

This has to be the best pub in Northwich town centre and Wetherspoons have made a decent job of converting the old post office into a bar. We ate there on curry night and for 3 of us a total of just under £18.00 inlcuding pints of real ale was pretty good by anyone's standards. There'splenty of space with sie rooms off at the front and a huge bar area (slightly spoilt by the banks of fruit machines). Local brews as well as a few left over from the recent beer festival but I was all OK.

Best pub in town.
Brilliant staff.
Good, wholesome, pub food.
Best beer ever, at prices so low you will not believe your good fortune.
Real ale served all the time

good pint of west coast ipa at 1-99 a pint a very good wetherspoons. very light inside. even if it was a dark winter mid-day due to 2 big windows at the front and plenty windows and doors at the rear of the pub leading out to small outdoor area.

Great selection of well kept real ales, and plentiful choice of continental lagers and lots of space at lunchtime at any rate. Not usually impressed by value meals but the Christmas Dinner with beef at 6.95 including a drink was one of the best value enjoyable meals I've ever had. Compliments to all the staff.

Set within one of the town's numerous imposing mock-Tudor 1920s buildings. The interior is something of a surprise; reminiscent of a barn conversion but it's been refurbished to a good standard as is the case with many Wetherspoon rebirths of old civic premises as pubs. Ale-wise, we'd hardly been spoiled along our meander along the Cheshire Ring canal journey, and so finding a GBG-listed pub serving 8 real ales was something of a boon, albeit that it was arguably a formulaic JDW outlet. The beer, which included offerings from Acorn, Skinners and Batemans breweries, was all in excellent form and we had no complaints. Perhaps more unusually for 'Spoons the staff were not only efficient in serving but also friendly; the 2 barmaids on duty during our visit were doing a fine job - probably too good to stay for long! There is a suntrap of a garden at the rear which we made great use of given the wonderful weather last Thursday. Clientele-wise, it was the usual mixed bag one has to tolerate in this chain's pubs. Most folk were perfectly behaved and inoffensive, although I spied 1 or 2 who were less so. I imagine on a Friday/Saturday night things might take a less-convivial tone, but thankfully that did not affect us. Chalk this one up as one of the more memorable JDWs, and certainly one of Northwich's best offerings - hell, it's one of the few that is still trading.

As far as Wetherspoons go it's a decent one. Big and well lit, always pretty fast service and decent pints. Can attract a fair few chavs and get a little over full on a Friday/Saturday night but normally a good spot for a few beers

I call in to this pub on a regular basis, it is one of, if not the best Wetherspoons I've visited. The beers on tap invariably include an award winner from somewhere or another & always include ales from locally sourced micros.
On tap yesterday (10/6/11) were; George Wrigth~Pipe Dream, Howard Town~Dark Peak, Moorhouses~Pendle Witches Brew, Courage~Directors, Tetleys~Cask Bitter, Highgate~Hanky Panky, Thornbridge~Sequoia, Hawkshead~Cumbrian Five Hop.

Sadly on this occasion, my visit was marred by one teenage couple who despite an obviously distressed child, continued to drink whilst their child screamed on! When everyone within earshot had moved to the other end of the pub they eventually took the hint & left (40 minutes later!) I could comment further, but for the sake of none confrontational neutrality I will decline.

Needless to say, pubs are no place for young infants, but sadly the "Spoons" marketing people wouldn't agree with me.
Unfortunately I see this as their single biggest problem and one that repeats itself time & time again. OK, It's basically boils down to individuals & their consideration for others or lack of it. But I think it's about time Wetherspoons took a firm line with this & other noisy behaviour & ask people to leave!
Here endeth my whinge!

Still a great pub, well managed with good staff....Recommended.

As far as Wetherspoons go, this must rate very highly in their pub portfolio.

With "Spoons" all too often it is the managers who let the side down, but with this pub you have no such problem. He knows his ales & he trains his staff well, in fact, pretty exceptional for a "spoons" a good team effort all round.

The range of ales on tap here is wide & varied with no one brewery dominating, that said, there is usually a local "micro brew" on tap together with a regular supply of national award winners too. The pub often hold theme weekends too where specific breweries supply their whole range, recent events have seen George Wright & Hawkshead.

As with all "spoons" it get very busy & noisy at peak times and as always attracts the less desirable amongst us (nationwide "spoons" problem). Luckily the pub apply's a tolerant but firm policy on anti-social & to date I have never encountered a problem & I have been many times.

The pub was quite rightly given "CAMRA" pub status & is featured in their guide, this is reflected by the overall drinking experience, the selection, quality & consistency of the ales on tap. If you like real ale, you won't be disappointed here.

The only problem I can foresee? Can Wetherspoons hold on to their manager? If he leaves, the focus may go with him? Fingers crossed this doesn't happen, so until then enjoy. I recommended a visit.

Very imposing four-storey mock-tudor exterior which was built as recently as 1914. Inside, the high ceilings of the main bar area give a bit of a barn-like feel, but there some side seating areas that are slightly more to human scale. Better still, if the weather permits, is the sizable beer garden which offers a good amount of outdoor seating. Twelve handpumps offering an excellent range of less usual ales (including a fine mild from George Wright on special offer at just a quid) as well as the usual suspects. Overall, pretty good for a 'spoons.

Absolutely stunning looking exterior, 10handpumps,excellent ale, quick service, a real JDW gem, 9/10

"Easiest"......please translate to easily!
Maldenman - 31 Jan 2009 21:54
Easiest the biggest Wetherspoons barn I've been in, but having stuck my head into the few adjoining pubs a better option. Decent range of local and micro brews but served very cold. A sign over the bar states "All draught beers served between 1-3C" I can only assume the locals like it that way.
Maldenman - 31 Jan 2009 21:48
Good choice of real ale's which are cheap, but is still very good quality. Getting served can be a problem, my record is 16 minutes on one saturday night.
mikemmills - 16 Sep 2008 17:54
Yes its a barn, but I thought usual high Spoons tandards were maintained - good real ale quality/choice; service bit slow.
mtaylor40 - 17 Aug 2008 21:39
A noisy, unpleasant barn of a place - but then the main part of the pub was the old Royal Mail sorting office. Rarely had a halfway decent pint in here.
blitzy - 28 Jan 2006 11:49
Massive room, nice barn look inside! Very cheap drinks and a good place to socialise with a large group! Not bad atall! But also a hot spot for trouble, cheap drinks and large groups not the best combination!
