I once shat myself in this pub. I was on an all day session and I'd had a few, so eventually I needed a piss. I went to the bogs to relieve myself and thought, while I'm at it, I'd enjoy a good old fashioned fart at the same time. I let rip with a beauty, it sounded like angels singing....unfortunately, at the same time, a shit came out of my arse and landed in my trousers.

Arseholes and Niggers and trashy women with dim "Shameless" style entertainment and a reflection of the decline of any decency that was ever in the area. Kingston social scene R.I.P.

Great pub! Nice atmosphere and good service, definitely recommend

I went to this pub the other night and had a great time and they have cleaned up the place and are now serving great pint in a very good price with a high level of welcome in better prices, also they have added some more real ales. It is a lot cleaner then next door pubs, will come back again for., give the new ones a visit

Nice drop of Bombardier. Not expensive either.

Now open again.
rainlight - 12 Jun 2010 22:49
Currently closed down. The sign on the door says 'for refurbishment' but if you go a little way along the street you will find a notice on a lamp-post that tells a different story. 'serious crime', eh? I wonder what they can mean.
When it was open I never found it that bad but I never stayed there late so can't say what it got up to later.
rainlight - 23 Nov 2009 08:28
Too many very young drinkers here.
When i was walking about not long ago it was closed by police due to an apparent raid ? ? ? Has sort of put me off of the place ..
Used to by owned by a great owner who now owns the Honest Cabbage. If you are looking for a great place to hang out and llisten to music, i would advice the Honest Cabbage .
To be fair, The Crickters does have good food but in the current credit crunch its quite expensive and a couple of pubs nearby have done deals such as the HC which is only 1.95 a meal!!!

Visited this gaff last night, and overall pretty impressed both with the beer and the service.

Only gripe was the presence of a few local cokeheads doing their thing in the gents.

Whatever ones views on pharmaceutical entertainment, the toilet of a pub on a Saturday night is neither the right time or the right place is it.

Needs clamping down on....

Closed on police order on thur night when visiting area

A very disappointing choice for some Bank Holiday Monday sunshine - they have a speaker outside the pub so there's no escaping the music. We moved into the back to the beer garden, but there were two blokes in there using a noisy power tool so we had to go and sit at the front seating area again. Toilets had a fair smattering of graffiti tags on the walls. Uninspiring and starting to look very run down.
thebunster - 5 May 2008 19:23
Fwit central, snotty arrogent barstaff, thai food ok but beer awful, full of a load idiots and a constant hint of menace and that's just the girls!! Avoid.
loveleedshatebates - 27 Apr 2008 09:07
Another pub that may benefit from the sad demise of the Marlborough - not devoid of its share of rowdies of a Saturday night (but then where is?), but it at least used to put on live entertainment and has a room upstairs for same. As it overlooks Fairfield Green (unfortunately across a road) it should also profit from its good location. Beer is at very least adequate also and the Thai food was very good.

i moved recently to kingston and the cricketers was the first pup i visited.the food amazing and the owner was very gentlemen. i dropped my pine by mistake was almost empty but he was passing and he insiste to give free drink even it was the first time i have seen him.i went to the other pups around but honestly the cricketers was the best place to be and every time i go there the always busy so you can tell it is really a good place to go and by the way my english not really good but i am pleased to give compliment to a pup where a good time almost every day

This pub is located close to Kinston town centre on Fairfield Park. Being a little bit out of the centre you get a more 'local' ground of people but the atmosphere is good.
They have big screen TV's for the sport, a small beer garden out back and benchs out front. They do the usual selection of reasonable wines and real ale or lager.
Upstairs there is live entertainment (comedy, music) but i've never been up there.

By far and away the best thing about this pub is the food. They have a thai chef and the food is awesome. I never used to like thai that much but i know regularly go here. Very reasonable prices as well. If nothing else, just go for the food.

Looked a bit dirty outside and in, but staff were nice, if a bit clueless. Standard drinks but good food.
daveo1707 - 10 Oct 2007 11:37
Popped in the other day, little better than before, what ever happened to the old live entertainment that they used to have, there were 2 live duos, 2 girls who were brilliant and another guy and girl duo, where have they gone?
anonymous - 23 Mar 2007 11:32
Popped in the other day, seems like they've had a minor refurb, nothing too extreme, new wooden floor and a new gents (much needed!). Standard beers and lagers (GK IPA, pride, stella, fosters, kronenbourg & guiness), 2 lovely big tv, one in each bar. The staff were friendly and efficient, mixed bunch of punters.

The old Thai chef is back as well so the food is very good.

Revisited yesterday - found the pub busier, mainly because the football was on. This is not an unpleasant pub in itself, although there was an aggressive Malaysian chap - apparently a former employee - being aggressive and threatening to the young bar staff, which rather took the shine off the visit. I believe this to be a one off and shall return and make a fuller report on this pub in due course
JohnBonser - 13 Nov 2006 17:19
Pub seemed rather neglected last Sunday lunchtime when I popped in at about 1 pm. Only about 4 customers. It's a nice traditional pub with a good location by the green, but you have to ask yourself why it seemed so empty. Note that the Greene IPA is 2.60 in here, compared with 2.40 in The Albion on the other side of the green
JohnBonser - 13 Jul 2006 11:49
The old owner is now at the "Honest Cabbage". The Thai chef is, indeed, now at the Albion and the food is still fantastic. New owners here seem fine, staff still excellent, still a cracking pub.
ratfink - 11 Jul 2006 20:59
Is it the Six Bells (aka 'Honest Cabbage' - did they keep the old sign? Because I suspect they'll be needing it) or the Albion on Fairfield that the Crick's old landlord is now running? I'd heard the Thai chef had moved over to the Albion - haven't tried the food there yet.
beeronaut - 1 Jul 2006 07:54
I recognize the comments in dodgy english below...

Its the old owner!!
Now runs "honest cabbage" round the corner.

This pub has now been smartened up and is quite a pleasant place for a drink

anonymous - 11 Jun 2006 19:44
think this must be under new management because they've kicked out the Thai food!!
anonymous - 3 Jun 2006 12:53
The best pub in Kingston. Just out of the centre and away from all the muppets. Very cosy inside and nice fairy lights decorating the place. Good for a night out or a quiet pint. Good staff which is a bonus.
chazzles - 31 May 2006 16:30
Looks ordinary from outside, but nice welcoming pub inside. Excellent Thai food. Bar staff seem fine to me. Doesn't seem to get too busy, especially earlier in the week.
Lots of performance-related events in the room upstairs.
Did I mention the food?
Worth a visit.
Secret_Pub_Inspector - 28 May 2006 15:32
Fantastic food and laid back atmosphere - though it could do with a make over! This would be a great pub if it wasn't for the surly and uninterested bar staff
louise77000 - 12 Apr 2006 16:51
I had my wedding reception in the upstairs function room of this pub in 2004 and I felt it was the perfect place. I was allowed to come in the night before and decorate with my own decorations so it would be ready for my big day. The upstairs was closed off to the public and I felt this was a private and enjoyable place to hold a special do and would certainly go again and would hire out the function room again for sure. Well worth it...
sammy241 - 13 Mar 2006 22:10
Pretty much agree with the previous comment, although this pub does have a little more to offer than just the fantastic Thai canteen. Upstairs hosts all sorts of things including gigs, poetry readings and comedy. Negatives are the very ordinary ales on offer and the bar can get very smokey sometimes.
anonymous - 12 Mar 2006 11:21
The best Thai curry i have outside of Thailand - the Penagn Duck curry is GREAT - wouldn't drink in there but for food alone i would say it is the best in Surrey!!!
fabio101 - 11 Oct 2005 12:34
Regular performances and events in the room upstairs from resident Hot Fudge Theatre. See posters in the pub or check Kingston Live for details. Or email [email protected].
Hot Fudge are also always on the look out for new performers/writers/technicians.

Lovely upstairs room, poor choice of girly drinks tho.
andrewjames2004 - 30 Dec 2004 18:53
Nicely situated pub opposite the Fairfield recreation ground. Divided into restaurant (Thai) and comfortable and welldesigned pub area. Cute and friendly barmaid - as mentioned previously - adds to the charm.
beeronaut - 31 Oct 2004 07:25
Great pub! Great beer, awesome quiz night, stunning bar staff, and the best Thai food I've ever eaten!
Plus me adorning the bar most nights.
Tom - 21 Jun 2004 15:28
good beer, good atmosphere, beautiful (female) barstaff, what more could you want? Ok it's more of a local than many other places in kingston - but for a local it's one of the best in the area
Steve - 20 Jun 2004 23:38
it was greatio!! i had a rite lafio wiv my matios and the food woz good goodio 11/10!! the entertainmentio was also goodio and the drink woz even better!!
Antonio Simpsonio - 10 May 2004 10:04
For a pub decorated with false beams this one is quite nicely done, accommodating a mix of clientelle. Not the greatest pint of Pride but worth noting that the Thai meals are served until 10 most nights
lout_from_the_lane - 17 Mar 2004 13:26
Quite a small pub, but nice lighting in the evenings makes it quite cosy. Recently changed management and have live music on Fridays. Look out for the FOXY duo - the singer's awesome!
Nick - 7 Nov 2003 12:54

albinobonce - 23 Dec 2002 10:52
A splendid pub, a beacon amongst the halogen lit kiddies pubs. The only stupid hairstyles you get in here are when its windy, and they sell Scrumpy jack at the perfect temperature. Do not however go there we dont like strangers.
abinobonce - 23 Dec 2002 10:51
Nice little pub this. Good Thai food, nice relaxed atmosphere. And, the only place in Christndom to find Albino Giles these days!
