Oh yeah and wrichard - I can only assume Swansea Steve didn't sprinkle fag ash on your beef as he served it

I don't know if I'm being heartless here but Tom and Chrissy really need to spend a few more nights at the Haverstock - they will get into the swing of it and Andrew's idea of a good craic.

I had some of the best roast beef I've ever had in here

This pub is inexplicably downmarket given the area; with an interior refit and under the right stewardship it could be as good as its location.

The smell of dissinfectant (possibly emanating from the lavatories) is overwhelming as is the audio-visual assault from all the TVs. The presence of the SIr Richard Steele, the Hill or the Washington all a short walk down the road (and the Stag up the road) means there is no credible reason for visiting this place.

Awful. Absolutely awful. Entirely male clientele and smells like a toilet. Never again.
sof2210 - 24 Nov 2010 19:23
Notoriously bad quality cask ales, turbo-blasted tv-footie, rowdy and stella fuelled clientele. Not the best pub around under any circumstance. Avoid, and hit the Steeles down the hill.

Beer (3 ales) were excellent, and better priced for the area than most (2.80/pt). Multiple screens for sport. I'll be back next time I'm in the area.

This pub is brilliant on a hot summers day, watching the football. Ok so the Landlord has a reputation for being a bit firey but with this pub, what you see is what you get. It's down to earth and one of the last few traditional pubs in the area, worth a visit just to look at the pictures on the wall!

My fianc invited me down to London to spend a romantic weekend together. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the owner who seemed like a pleasant person.
We were advised by their website that every room had an ensuite shower and toilet, however, when we went up to the room, we had two single beds, a television which had bad signal and a small cupboard.
The bathrooms were communal and dirty and unfinished, in fact one sink didnt even work and both toilets had no seats.
We had been told by the owner that there was a wedding party staying at the hotel so we were expecting noise and drunken people; however what we didnt expect is two guests bashing open our door at 1am breaking the lock and splitting the door frame. So we contacted the owner who arrived and looked at the damage. He said to put furniture up against the door to stop any further damage and to sort this out in the morning.
When we went to leave at 8am Sunday morning after no sleep the owner said we had over reacted and that the other guests had been as good as gold! He gave back our money reluctantly.
I dont know where he stays but I dont expect to pay 60 for a night and have other guests share our room! To top it off it costs 8.00 for a bottle or Peroni and a single Gin and Tonic.
I advise any one who wishes to stay here to sleep fully clothed and wash with wet wipes!
Thanks for a top stay!

What you see is what you get! Not bad, in all honesty!

My previous comment for this pub has disappeared and maybe it was a little harsh. A toned down version is that this pub needs some serious TLC and it is good for watching football.

I can honestly advise you to avoid this pub like the plague.
Although the food and beer are bad, the worst element of this pub is infact the owner.
He is such a moody bastard it is incredible. And also very very rude when he gets very drunk, which is quite often, considering that he seems to be an alcoholic.
My friends and I used to joke about how bad the pub is when we went, but after one particularly bad experience with the owner, we stopped going, which, was a good thing..

Top Pub. Drinks are expensive but very understable because of the area. The Food is the best taste of foods i have had in a long time. The chef defiantly knos what she is doing. Brilliant for any sports on the big tvs, ypu can watch for where ever you are sitting.

Just to let those who them abusive comments from before. the pub is getting a makeover after the smoking ban. Which will be very pleasing to see when finished. The new beer garden is looking fantastci with the new look, the landlord here has defiantly done some major work here, Well done mate. Live music is played in the winter so if you like your irish bands, this is the place to be. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

Charmless staff and the smell of disinfectant in the drinking area itself that emanated from the toilets was overpowering.....hilarously bad.

Still rubbish, sadly. This is a shame as most of the other pubs in the area have gone (or are about to go) gastro and there's now a distinct shortage of proper, old fashioned boozers. Unfortunately the Haverstock takes pretty much all the bad things out of 70s style boozers and very few of the good things. Best that can be said for it is that it's ok on a summer's afternoon when you don't actually have to sit in the pub, and it's excellent for football, it being possible to see a screen from practically anywhere.

The Haverstock Arms is in dire need of a makeover. In the last 5 years that I have been there, the outside has had a lick of paint on occasion, but the inside has remained the same and is starting to look dated and dare I say it, a bit tatty.

The selection of beers and spirits are good and it's a good place if you want to watch major sporting events, but it's hard to watch them sometimes as there will almost always be someone obstructing your view - that is unless you watch the game in the other room, which is non-smoking.

I am going to give this pub a 4/10 because the inside desperately needs to be refurbed, the Gent's toilets are not always clean and the seating is not always comfortable.

If you like proper beer then dont bother. It's a bit of a hole of a place and only good for watching football or rugby - if only the toilets could cope.
Gareth - 15 Oct 2004 13:38
Obnoxious landlord and customers, poor food, poor beer and a poor atmosphere. Only good for watching football really.
Badger - 8 Oct 2004 12:20
I was there about noon on a summer Saturday for a pint and realised there was a rugby match on the telly. The barmaid was happy to put it on for me, and the combination of decent ale and one side of the pub being opened up for the weather had me rating it as one of the best experiences of watching sport in London pubs.

Not sure what it's like at any other time.

This is a cracking pub for a Sunday afternoon in front of the football, but I can't think of any reason to go in there at any other time. It's not the most welcoming establishment in town and they have the nasty habit of leaving all the tellys on at full blast regardless of whether or not anything is on. However, if you just need somewhere to go at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, this is arguably the best in the immediate area.
Slipperduke - 17 May 2004 12:46
Was a bit grotty inside last time I went in but the atmosphere was good and footy was on the big screen so worth it if you are passing by.
Dave Vernon - 23 Feb 2004 13:15
Used to have 2 piece bands in there on Sat nights a few years back. Used to be very busy. First visit for a few years recently and it was very very empty. Bit of a depressing feel to it.

A fairly friendly traditional pub close to Belsize Park station, with some outside seating and TV screens for sports matches. Real ale was on when I last visited, but unsure about now. Quite a nice pub generally.
